Following a full battery discharge and recharge I now have an error message SRS. How do I clear this, or can I buy a diagnostic/reset tool and clear it myself, or do I need to go to my nearest Indy to sort it. I am loathe to drive the car if it’s the air bag malfunction.

Hi why did you discharge the battery and how did you do it.

I haven’t recovered from my ankle operation as quickly as I expected, so the car was left for five weeks before I could get to it and start it. It’s holding charge now.

The error message can be cleared DIY using iCarsoft. More importantly, iCarsoft will tell also you what the fault is, before erasing the error message - it may or may not be related to the battery discharge.

Alternatively, any independent MB specialist with MB STAR diagnostic computer can do this for you.

Thank you!

Try turning the steering wheel lock to lock a couple of times with the engine running.

Not the same vehicle or cause, but fwiw I had something similar on my Vito.
I removed my double front passenger seat unit, whilst giving my van a deep clean. I unplugged the seat sensor cable to do so.
That would have been fine, however I switched the ignition on with the seat unplugged, and the SRS light immediately lit. It would not go out, and no error codes were showing on my code reader.
I fairly extensively researched, (as I like to be able to do all tasks on my vehicles myself) but came to the conclusion that there was no viable option available to me.
Eventually I took my van to a Mercedes Indy', who plugged it into their Star computer & used that to switch it off
Annoyingly I don't even think they did what I asked them to, (which was re-set the SRS warning light) as now the "fasten seatbelt" warning no longer operates in my Vito.
I am pretty certain it alerted perfectly accurately before I paid them to rectify the illuminated SRS warning light.!

Hth.

That wont fix an air bag light.

Most garages will erase it for you for not much money.

I think, the airbag it's only how you understood it. He's worried if it can cause his airbag malfunction. Not that the airbag warning is on.

Switch engine on, and like someone said, turn steering wheel all way left right few times. And after few miles of driving (apparently) light will go of. I think it's only one part of the car that needs to learn it's limits.

Thank you for all your replies, I tried the turn left turn right suggestion but it didn’t work, so I will just have to use my neighbour’s Carly. Does any one know where the diagnostic plug hole is on my CLC200k. I expected it to be below the steering wheel but it doesn’t appear to be there. Your help would be appreciated.

It might be behind a cover. It will be somewhere over the driver's right shin, just have a good look and investigate any flaps and covers you find.

What a lovely neighbour I have, he gave me his icarsoft (Mercedes) unit. I found the cover for the plug receptacle and finally managed to get the icarsoft plugged in and it found the fault to be a short circuit in the passenger side seat belt switch. Is that under the seat, and is it replaceable?
