Hi. Been out twice today in my C Class and on third occasion at around 8 o’clock tonight turned engine on and hit the heated rear window button while I scraped the ice off the car (again) but no light came on. Quickly realised that the whole control panel was not working. Immediate thought was a fuse but after a quick google, learned that this would mean several fuses had all blown at once. Started to use the car but just not possible in this weather as windscreen mists up quickly in the cold nights. Any suggestions gratefully received..

Electrical faults can often be difficult to locate and fix without being connected to a diagnostic machine. To save wasting time and money with guessing it would probably be better to book it into your local indie garage for a hook up to star diagnostics or a loan of a good diagnostic scanner like from Icarsoft if your handy with modern car electronics would be the other alternative and do a scan yourself and see what it shows. With most of these machines they will more or less pay for themselves after the first use.
Hope you get sorted 👍

I'd wait & try it again when it isn't quite so bollock shiveringly cold.

I had a similar symptom in my SL when it hit 6 years old. Sometimes the entire comand and control panel underneath wouldn't fire up. Then it would after a while or a restart.

Turned out the accessory battery needed replacing. So I had both batteries replaced at the time.

New battery - problem solved.

It was always worse in cold weather or if the car had sat unused for a while.

And ....... we’re all good again. All systems magically back to normal. Maybe neilrr had the right idea. Thanks so much for the suggestions and there is obviously an underlying problem so I will change the accessory battery for starters. I guess she’s getting on a bit now and really hates the cold weather - a bit like her owner 😁

Another indicator it's the accessory battery is the start-stop system not operating as frequently as it used to or taking a long time to go live.
