Thought I would post a couple of pics of changing the power steering fluid , I did the E class yesterday but did not take any car pics .
Jacked the car up at the front , disconnected the return flow pipe near the bulkhead which was MUCH easier than my OM642 , nothing was in the way .
I then used a large syringe to drain the Overflow reservoir (couldn’t for some reason get a pipe into my E class reservoir ) .
There was very little moving of any of these old hoses .
I then plugged the hose from the reservoir and added another pipe (orange one) into a container for the return dirty oil .
Turned the steering lock to lock a few times with regular reservoir top ups until the new fluid came out .
Reconnected the hose and clic-r clamp then did the steering again 10 times lock to lock , checked the fluid level again .
I put the cap on then and turned the engine on for a few more lock to locks .
Lowered the car took it for a 15min drive and checked the level again…..job done . A slow 1.5 hour job .
Maybe used 1.2-1.3L of oil

Hi @W1ghty

I'm going to be doing this on my E350 in the next few weeks.
Where did you get the silicone tube from for this that you connected to the return line, pumping fluid to the bottle?
What is the white bit being used to block what I assume the other end of the return line that goes back into the PAS reservoir?
How did you know what size tubing to get?
Did they also fit the E320?

I don't have a clic-r clamp, so I was going to buy a box of assorted stainless fuel hose clamps and use one of those. Do you think this will be okay?

Due to access, do you think I should I save this job until I remove (replace) my radiator and replace the drive belt, pullyes and tensioners? I'll be doing this in the next few weeks anyway.

There is a filter in the reservoir, that is a service item. I did my fluid change without renewing it but have one in stock and will do the job again in better weather.

I should limit you to one question a month buddy ;) . Good thing I’m retired .
The orange tube is from one of these transfer pumps, always worth having .
The clic r clamp I reused , I put it back with some clic r pliers I bought cheap . I’m sure fuel hose clamps would be a good solution as well .
The white tube is from my box of tubes , it’s a plastic central heating 10mm pipe. I can measure the outside drain you need me to .
I got the pipe sizes approximately from watching some YouTube stuff , but as I said I keep bits of pipe for various jobs

That’s a good question about did they fit the E class , I can’t remember exactly and didn’t take any pics .
Remind me again and I might be able to look at both engines and see if the same pipes would be used on the E as the CLK .
I don’t think the job would be easier or harder with your other list of jobs ??

Far too lazy for all that....I just suck out the reservoir and refill it a few times over a few weeks until it looks pretty much clean. Sure you use more fluid.....but anything to avoid actual work! :D
