Hi A Happy New Year

The car in question is a 1999 CLK320 V6. UK spec RH Drive. It is my Wifes car & until yesterday has been, to my knowledge been driving perfectly.

The car started on the button yesterday & ran fine. After shutting off for 5mins, the engine now does Not turn over at all! I have not had a chance to look at the car closley. However all the lights central locking works. The dash indication light all appear to be working. But there is No engine cranking. I will look at the battery & starter motor, to see if something simple.

Could anyone Please give any more pointers, that would be unique with this vehicle, that would cause this to happen? One further thing to add, I am not sure if this is connected or a seperate issue, but when the ignition is on ( Dash cluter operative) the engine cooling fan runs? Made sure AC was off. Prior to this fault occuring, the car was only driven for 10mins, so No overheating was evident. I have allready checked the coolant level.

Thank you in advance for any advise that may be provided
Steve

Hi & welcome to the forum, doesn't sound like the battery as you have lights etc, before wasting money on what it might be get the car hooked up on star at a good independant garage & see what fault codes show up.

Look under the car on the passengers side just where the bulkhead meets the floor. There is a wire there that goes to the starter motor and they are known to perish and fall free.

I'm presuming it's an auto!
If so, although the gear leaver may physically be in park does the dash display correspond with that because if it thinks it is in any other gear besides park or neutral it won't crank, may also be worth going through all the gear lever positions a couple of times and place it into neutral and try again!
