Clk old Nokia telephone and iPhone option updating?

Bought a nice CLK cab and it has the Nokia cradle under the arm rest with a Bluetooth symbol. In the glovebox is a white cable with the old style iPhone iPod connector (not lightning). I've tried plugging in an old iPod but all that happens is a merc symbol appears on the iPod screen and it says ready for disconnecting? So an iPod won't work and I don't have an iPhone.
So as the telephone cradle has a little Bluetooth symbol is there any way it can be adapted to work with a modern Bluetooth phone? ICE is standard 2005 elegance cd model no sat nav but no idea what rear connections or inputs it has?
It's not worth me spending loads on this but it would be nice to get and aux in of some sort working or Bluetooth?

Check top left of your glovebox. There should be a 3.5mm socket for audio in.
I used to use a bluetooth device with 3.5 mm jack which made it pretty much wireless and boosted the signal as standard input is a bit low.

If it had the telephone prewiring fitted at the factory then the Nokia cradle should just unclip from its connector in the upper part of the armrest. You can then add a Viseeo or MB bluetooth adapter. From what I remember the iPod connector lead uses the same connection on the head unit as the 3.5 jack which is then disabled. It may still exist but probably won't work.

I think now even the expensive viseeo adaptors are old and unreliable as quite a few seem to have problems with them. A simple aux in would be simpler as I have a Bluetooth adapter for a jack plug. Still need to check the car for a socket but have heard the head unit may have an input somewhere too?

Now checked and no aux in socket just the old style iPhone lead? Stereos on eBay don't show an obvious aux in option either. I wonder if any adapters could change that to an aux in socket? Another option is to by an old Nokia phone but doubt that would allow other Bluetooth options?

OK, you seem to have phone pre-wre and a 2005 car, so for telephone bluetooth functions you need this device
Refurbished Mercedes HFP Bluetooth Adapter

You also seem to have the genuine iPod kit as fitted by Mercedes dealers (and us). The issue is the old ones don't support 5 Volt charging, but there was an adapter to make them work (new lead) - assuming yours does support 5V changing you can add a Viseeo WMA1000 which will plug into that and bluetooth stream. To select that input you hold down CDC button for a few seconds (which selects AUX which that system connects to) - eBay good for the WMA1000 - it can appear under different names (Bovee for instance)

Cheers
Richard

ps, the phone cradle you have, even though its bluetooth, will only pair with the Nokia phone it is made for. It will not stay paired with other phones (it pairs, checks if its a Nokia xxxx if its not it disconnects)

Thanks
Richard

Thanks, £11 or £229 for a second hand part is a tough choice. As The car is only a Sunday driver I can't justify the expensive option. The radio transmitter is certainly work a try though. I saw a video on utube somewhere showing a way of tapping in the car loom near a door frame and simply adding a 3.5 aux in cable? When I first tried my iPod I didn't know the car aux switch needed holding down so I'll check that again too. I could also just buy an old Nokia phone and swap my SIM card if using the merc.

I'm about to change phones from iPhone 4 to Samsung, so my iPhone 4 cradle (and iPhone 4 16Gb) will be redundant, the cradle is genuine MB and fits onto the UHI connector in the centre armrest, it paires with my wife's HTC One M7 OK (and also with her iPhone 5 she had before the HTC). I bought the cradle second hand off eBay De about 6 years ago - would it interest you?

Just got the Samsungs, but have yet to fire them up so will find out in the next couple of days whether that cradle will work with them, or if they will connect just through Comand, or whether I need to ditch the iPhone 4 cradle and spend money on something else! Not much choice, as I persuaded SWMBO to also have a Samsung A10 (£99 from O2 as we're existing PAYG customers) so, have no choice but to get it working!!

The Nokia cradle only has a power socket to charge so how does it transmit the Bluetooth and what receives the signal? Is there a separate receiver in the car or in the head unit? Is there a hidden mic in the car to make its work?

I may see if I can get an phone to match the cradle. Nokia still sell a newer version called the 6300 classic but I'm not sure if the Bluetooth would pair as the early 6300 started in the lat 90's? My car is 2005 but not sure what year the phone kit was fitted or if from new?
