Hi All,
I have a 2003 W209 CLK55, on start up and running it had a whining noise.
It doesn't seem to be pulley or belt related. Its had it since I bought it in the summer. I don't believe its the torque converter as I've had that replaced, and the noise was there before and after. It doesn't go away after start up or when warm, its always there, but less noticeable once doing around 40mph +.
It sounds similar to the attached video. I though perhaps alternator or similar.
I just wondered if anyone else has suffered it, or if there is a selection of items it might be?
Thanks in advance

Power steering fluid low? Or pump goosed?

Could be the a/c compressor. Get a short v belt and run the engine missing out various pulleys.

Yep good guess -
It's the PS pump I wonder if I will ever get to the point where there's nothing wrong with this car !

Check your ps fluid level. It is crucial. If all ok MB used to offer an exchange price on these pumps. Sent from my iPhone using MBClub UK

Ok will do many thanks

Sadly the pump was utterly knackered
