Maybe we dont know what sort of discount you shall/might be getting.

At the end of the day they wanna sell cars and your the prospective buyer and its up to you really to negotiate a good deal.

Good luck with your bargaining and hope you get a kind deal.

Depends on whether you are going in with cash or a trade. If you're going in with cash, offer around £2k less than the sticker price. They may say no, but you don't know until you ask. If you're going for a trade-in, you have far less room to negotiate.

Ultimately, it will be down to your negotiation skills. Good luck.

Not a helpful response m8. Agreed DGW was being a tad optmistic - but no need to jump on him in such a way ;)

Yes, as pammy said, maybe he was a bit optimistic, but replies like this can go against you in a big way.
Maybe a little more thought before posting such replies ;)

The dealer could have picked up a 2002/52 5 speed auto coupe with below average miles for anything between £17K (dog rough) and £21,750 (minter). If it's the latter then you've no chance of a discount (£1K profit for dealer minus any warranty) but I doubt this is the case. As suggested earlier make a mean offer and see how you go.

As Brett says, trade in gives less room - they want to make a profit on BOTH transactions so cash buying is much better. what you will find is that they may not budge on ticket price of CLK but offer you what seems to be a generous trade in on the TT - beware false euphoria, you may get carried away, and strike a poor deal.

I am no expert but these are my experiences of car buying over the years. ;)

I would like to take this opportunity to apologise to one and all

dgw131 - as you found out, this forum is nowhere near as active as the TT forum. And no, last night I didn't have anything better to do than browse car forums :)

Good luck - let us know how you get on.

very inpressed :) but it looks like we can't do a deal  he was looking at knocking off £1,000. may be worth keeping the TT a bit longer while i look around

That's not bad. Remember that you are also buying a little piece of mind with the used-approved route. Also, the longer you leave it, the lower the trade on your TT will go too.

Leave it a week or two and go back with a slightly better offer on your part - if he doesn't contact you first, that is.

I suppose I could get really peeved at this point, but hey it's only an internet forum :D (and a jolly nice one at that)

If its not too late, I'd rethink this one if I were you. For that price you can pick up a newer one. In my experience (I looked at literally hundreds) I would steer clear of anything with Sand coloured interior. They hang around on the forecourts for ages as they appear to be les desireable than orion grey or black (Anthracite). That sort of money will get you a nice cabriolet or a highly specced coupe. The other thing to consider is parktronic, its a must on these cars.

Good luck.
