CLK320 Cruise Control Problems

Just bought a CLK320 Convertable for my better half on an X registration. The cruise control was working ok but has started to play up. It works fine when you set it in 30mph zones, but any faster it does not work and a workshop warning pops up, is there any easy fixes or is it just a drop her at the dealers job?

Are all tyres same size (calculated outer circumference)? Are all tyres same size in real life (measured), equally worn, same pressure etc.?

If no difference in above, the most likely wheel speed sensor playing up.

I have the same issue but it trips out at about 73 mph (CLK320 Coupe W reg) with a malfunction warning. If I try and set a speed limit I get the 'Visit Workshop' message.

After speaking to Ollie (PCS), he thought it is most likely a part of the car that the sensor reads and not the sensor itself. He was quoting alot of money if this was the case but I think next time it is with him I will ask him to do a road test with a STAR machine fitted to find out exactly what the problem is and then way up my options. Would be interested to hear how you get on?

Good luck

My 2000 320 CLK did similar things, 55 mph was where mine got upset. The scanner said nsf wheel sensor but as it tested fine on an ohm meter and the reluctor ring it reads appeared ok I left it, just forgot about a minor problem on an old car. The wheel sensor was about £85 from Ebay, can't remember the make.

Thanks for the help, will check the tyres out first but if it's an expensive fix as spike60 says it's an old car so can live without the cruise control, but will sort it if its a cheap\easy fix
