In 7th gear at about 1500rpm its started to faulter / become irratic, dissapears when i accelerate but it's there and is getting more noticable.

Torque convertor?

What should i do?

Mileage is 71k (miles)

I've done some reading on trans fluid change and understand it needs a drip feed fill through the drain at 40'c.
Why is the temp so important i wonder?
I feel confident doing this: assuming the temp will be about right; if i start the job after a long run; the oil will be room temperature; 1 hours job...should be about 40'c.

My dealer wants £400 and that's just changing the fluid. I don't want to spend To much money on a transmission with a fault.

Has anyone else done this at home?

An independent merc specialist should be able to do the ATF and filter change for between £130 to £160
