After watching ebay for some time, I bought some CLS wheels (still with black dots) with nearly new tyres from MB Bristol .. for £300 :) Bargain

Although I expected them to fit (asked murray systems, who said 'just'), I was nervous -- mainly because it is 8.5J all round, and also 245 wide all round. Together with some new shorter bolts (plus locking), they were fitted today.

Original 15" alloys with Michelin Powergy P6000 given to mate.

Therefore, went from 205/65 15 to 245/45 17 (Continental Contact Sport 2).

Initial impressions:

1. much better stance .. car looks much better with wider tyres, not quite gangster, but 'harder'

2. ride is not materially affected .. which amazed me.

3. car handles better, and feels more stable at high speeds on motorway.

Great upgrade. And cheap too :)

does anyone know whether I should have the wheels re-aligned or tracked (since the widths are so much wider)?

Looks good Sean !

Those wheels were a bargain ..

yeah .. and so much better.

the rear end view now looks right .. before the 'skinny' tyres made it slightly anaemic

clear and not very elegant picture:

Do you not experience tram lining on the motorway? My new 18" AMGs (from 16" wheels) on my w202, are great; as you say great stance, firmer handling, sticks to the road like glue in the dry, but in the inside lane of the m'way, it seems to tram line quite a bit? End up having to stick to the middle or outside lane now.....joining the ranks of the 'middle lane club' and the BMW/Audi pr*cks in the outside lane!lol

no tramlining at all, in the dry or the wet.

ocassionally on uneven roads, there is a bit additional steering 'wriggle', but that's it.
