Saw one yesterday at a local dealers and just had a quick look around- sure seems a nice place to be with plenty of toys too :bannana:

Not going to be doing mega miles so fuel isn't a big issue.

What does the Forum think ?:dk: Good / bad experiences

Comments invited

I've got the pre facelift ( 306 bhp ) one. Had it since November and I must say that I love it.

Inside is a lovely place to be , plenty quick enough in the real world for 99% of the time.

500's all had airmatic I believe , worth making sure it all works properly as it can get expensive to fix.

It will also have SBC which can be problematical, but there are fixes available ( as there are airmatic fixes too )

It'll have the 7g gearbox which I don't personally like as much as the 5g in my old clk. Get the gearbox oil changed unless you have evidence of it being done recently.

Get one with as many toys as you can , a 500 generally should be pretty well specced. Make sure they all work as they can be complicated and expensive to fix.

Wheels , especially rear ones are prone to cracking , worth looking very closely at the inside edges of the rims.

CLS 219's are well built with high quality interiors.

CLS55.

5 years and 43k miles.

Apart from routine maintenance and consummables (such as spark plugs, discs/pads, gearbox oil change and new main battery), the only things that have gone wrong:

a) 2 front parktronic sensors
b) rocker cover gasket (light small one just above oil fill point for engine) needed re sealing

And yes, the sunroof seal needs lubricating too as I use the sunroof all the time.

That's it.

Perhaps I have been lucky.

I am always struck by the heft and quality feel of the doors, the interior (for example, the chrome interior door openers that are real metal; the artico covered dash etc) and general solidity of the car.

My designo leather driver's seat is barely worn after 53k miles. I do look after it but even so.

They arent you know, I have a tiny chip on my drivers door revealing its plastic underneith

you have ruined my day :D

even if it's plastic, it feels much nicer than current Mercs!

If that is the major issue with one of these then I may well go after the one I saw. Updates to follow if Dealer wants my SLK as a part / ex.
Thanks all.

Get it checked over before you buy it, if that can't happen then do it afterwards. It's well worth it IMO.

Olly advice appreciated thanks. Can't be an easy thing to arrange so what do you suggest please? Would much prefer to do before purchase than after for obvious reasons.

Mine cut me !

The edge of the chrome came off and it was like a freaking razor !

Currently held in place with insulation tape , like a pikey builders van :(

Call me at work tuesday. We can arrange something I'm sure.
