Dear All

I have a CLS 63 on a 14 plate and have had it for a couple of months now. Very much enjoying it but i have to take it back into have a couple of things looked at and one of them is the cold running.

I wanted to find out if lumpy cold running is a common issue with the 5.5 Biturbo engine or not?

I was expecting it run hot or cold without any issues but i can only describe it from cold as like a carburettor fuelled car with the choke half out when it needs to be all the way out. Clears after a mile or so when the engine gets a little heat into it, but it does make it quite lumpy when feathering the throttle in town.

The car has to go back in for a couple of adjustments anyway but i wanted a heads up before i take it back.

Any thoughts appreciated.

Can't say that I've experienced anything like you describe with my E63, but then I don't tend to get caught in slow moving traffic immediately after start up from cold.

One thing I would say though is that when the engine's stone cold, initial throttle response can seem a little slow which can result in slightly uneven progress when you open the throttle a bit more and it suddenly takes off.

thanks have to be honest and suspected it was not usual, wanted to check so when i challenge the dealers i dont get fobbed of with 'its normal with the '63' .
