CLS lowering ?

Because AIRmatic will adjust the ride hieght as the boot load increases. The steel sprung models don't so need to start a bit higher at the rear to compensate...

There you go , every day is a school day

I think mine would look like a jacked up hot rod if the boot and tank were empty so a pair of lowering springs may be the order of the day.

My Indy will be doing it next week along with some other warranty work I need done. I'll take before and after shots and add them to this thread when it gets done

A day without knowledge is a day wasted! That pearl of wisdom makes me even MORE certain that I'm doing the right thing in lowering my none airmatic version.

Any joy with the lowering springs Jacko ?

Hello mate. I've bought the springs and still intend to put them on but..................
Due to a coming together with a delivery wagon (Whilst I wasn't even in the car) my car is now sitting at a Mercedes approved repairer waiting to have major surgery. It needs a new rear drivers side door and a new rear quarter panel behind it among other things. I only found out the company that did the damage by luck (Daughter heard my alarm going off before they drove away) and they've fortunately coughed up to it. While its been waiting for parts for repair I've had the inlet port shut off motor and O2 sensor replaced (£800) as the car had gone into limp mode a few times until I turned it off and back on. The garage I bought it off coughed to 75% of the price for that as it isnt a warranty item. After a bit of internet digging the shut off motor goes primarily due to a leaking turbo seal leaking oil onto it. I had the turbo seal replaced (before I knew about the inlet port shut off motor problem) during a B Service a month ago so at least that shouldn't happen again.
While its there now I've also had Mercedes check the rear demister as it wasnt working and have been told that the rear window needs replacing (£810) !!!!!!!!! AND the seller agreed to pay to that as well. Top fella.
So whilst I've had plenty of bad luck recently, I've had quite a bit of good luck as well.............. Not the best of starts to my first Merc ownership after having Beemers for 15 years. Ive had two 320's two 323's two 325's and a rapid 330d M sport and none of them have given me this much grief.

Geez fella, and here is me complaining about my car sitting too high at the rear

In the last 12 months of CLS ownership I have had it go into LHM three times , a CEL light displayed , a lambda sensor replaced , inlet pressure sensor replaced , a suspension bush replaced for the MOT - luckily all was covered my their approved used warranty but not too good as the car has covered around 25k to date.

Like you my previous car (Saab) gave my pretty much zero problems (apart from consumables) over my seven years of ownership and even my wifes "dodgy French" `07 Renault Scenic has been trouble free for the last five years.

Hopefully the car has settled down now and will start gaining my trust as it is going to be a "keeper" for the next three years anyway.

Kenny.

The broken rear spring that I used as an excuse to contemplate lowering the ride height also needs added to that list as well!
3 months = Unexpected B Service due to me not realising it was the old fashioned 12 months servicing and not conditioned based like my recent Beemers, Turbo Seal, Inlet port shut off motor, Exhaust O2 sensor, new rear window and demister module, broken rear spring. And Ive faffed around with the front lights to get them to match the Bi Xenons instead of that dull yellow look you get. Stroll on................
I'll get it back, see the standard of the repairs etc, put the new lowering springs on then hope! The car looks great, drives great and is quick enough (especially after the remap) so I hope I get a trouble free period for a while once its all sorted. Otherwise, it might be back to a Beemer, maybe an M5 or something suitably daft as I dont have too travel far to work and economy isnt really an issue. Fingers crossed for a week and a halfs time when i get mine back. The insurance company DID leave me with a brand new, delivery mileage courtesy car though. A slate grey CLS 350 Blutec Shooting Brake that IS quite nice !

Now you have been driving the car for a while how do you find the remapped engine and how much extra did the remap provide as some of the companies I have looked at only seem to offer < 15hp on top of the standard Brabus remap.

They quoted from 272bhp to 303bhp. 31 bhp so just over 11%. Worth it I'd say.
The 57 plate BMW 330D M Sport I had went from 230bhp to 300bhp after a remap. That WAS a big difference. Smaller and lighter car than the Merc. Plus it was manual which it is unusual for those so if the mood took me I could ring its neck. It never missed a beat and was seriously quick. Great car. I wonder how quick the Merc would be with a manual box.........
But it was time to move on from the Beemer. I'd had it 3 years (and Beemers for 15) and I normally change after about 3 years. A Merc seemed like the next step up.
