I have recentely purchased a 2006 (06) CLS 320 Diesel.
i'm reading the manual and in there it says to use the below oil:

229.1, 229.3, 229.31, 229.5

or vehicles with diesel particle filter- 229.31 if you need to top up oil, please comply with sheets 229.3 and 229.5.

On the engine itself there is a sticker with 229.31 and 228.51.

From this info from the manual and the sticker on the engine, i'm not sure which is the correct oil to use.

i'm guessing the stickers on the engine are the correct oil to use but the stickers say 229.31 and 228.51.

Is there a diffrent between 229.31 and 228.51?

Which is the correct oil to use?

Thanks in advance.

also pics coming soon.

Surely it's 229.31 and 229.51?

The .x1 suffix is low-ash and is indeed intended for DPF-equipped cars, but I can't really say whether your 2006 car actually has DPF or not - others may know.

229.51 is the latest standard, 229.31 is the previous one, from the sticker in your engine compartment it would seem that your 2006 car should get 229.31, but you can also use the newer 229.51 if you wanted to (though you don't have to, i.e. if you find good quality 229.31 oil at a good price).

As above. 229.31 and 229.51 are low ash oils that are needed for cars with DPF, but they can also be used in cars without DPF.

To be sure if your car has a DPF check the datacard.

Thanks for your replys.
is 229.51 a newer oil to 228.51?

on my engine sticker it says 229.31 and 228.51 not 229.51.

Also can i get the data card info from mercedes dealers.
there was a russian site but that doesnt work anymore.
