I'm looking to purchase a 2011/12 CLS 350 cdi.

What options are considered essential for a easier resale and are there any special options worth looking out for or paying a premium?

Advice appreciate as this will be my first merc.

I must be getting old :)

Comand, reversing camera, heated front seats.

If you find one with folding rear seat, let me know.

Is this how Mercedes perceived by non-Mercedes owners - a car for the old folk? How old are you if you don't mind me asking?

I don't understand.

You are asking about which options are best for resale value, then intend to modify your car which will decimate the resale value.

35.

I always thought I'd get a merc when I was old :)

This diesel man character seems to think easily reversible, subtle mods (vossen wheels, clear bra satin paint protection, lowered suspension) will destroy the cars value?!?

Is he the resident mbclub "troll"?

The CLS buying demographic don't want modded cars, they want them just as Mercedes made them.

Try it and see.

From the salesman at our local MB dealership:

I don't think he meant 20's, though he was in his 40's, so was getting on a bit...

My last response to the troll.

My 997 is totally unmodded. If your ever lucky enough to own a newish porsche, you will learn their warranty doesn't allow it.

All of my previous cars haven't been modified. 90% have been company cars and my last 2 wouldn't have needed anything doing to them anyway.

The only reason I'm changing the wheels when I buy a CSL is because the standard 19"'s look to small and when I fit bigger wheels the suspension will NEED! a subtle drop.

Now **** off back to your sad life.

I apologise to other members. Please read my other thread and you will understand my response to this sad little man.

Maaaaan you're old! LOL

I'll be 35 in less than a month and I drive an even older car than you're buying - a true grandpa's S-Class coupe. Personally, I like it for renowned Mercedes luxury which I'm sure you will appreciate in a CLS.

Mods are always subjective and usually don't add any value. Except for when you own a true one off (think RUF Porsche) and even then that doesn't always help the depreciation.

Dieselman is alright. He's a true Mercedes enthusiast like an overwhelming majority of folks here. Stick around, we have a lot of performance junkies in AMG ward, I mean section. :thumb:

Hi KeV. That's a bit harsh. Especially for a new member. Dieselman can be pretty direct (31,000 posts!) but also he's very very informative at times. Certainly he's no troll.

I'm struggling with getting older mate, I'll admit that.

Any mods I make will be reversible. The wheels would be silly to sell with the car due to the value (20" Vossens), I'd remove the wrap and the paint would be protected, the brabus d6 box is removable and I'd return the suspension to stock.

If anything the car would be in better condition as the paint would have been protected for the duration of my ownership and the wheels would be in storage.

This thread wasn't supposed to be about mods, but dieselman the **** strikes again.

I really want advice on what the best options to look out for on a used CLS are.

In what way have I been too direct?

Howard reminded us of the (Kev) in the Corsa lowering the seats for a quicker getaway, we then laughed about another with a matte wrap and carbon mirror shells...for that extra bit of F1 go.

Then Barry Kev says he wants to know which items are essential for resale, when advised his mods will kill that resale takes umbridge.

Shouldn't have asked then.

I did advise on which options will assist in resale value... Confused...

I only joined yesterday and he's been a **** for some reason.

I wouldn't mind betting 75% of those posts have been condescending or a wind up.

He's trying his best to ruin this thread for some reason.

Sad, sad man. IMO.

The fact he's been on here since 2003, made nearly 32000 posts and only given 4 likes speaks volumes.

Sad little keyboard warrior who was probably bullied at school and drives a skoda.

Are all 32,000 posts this stupid?

The planned mods are reversible and will preserve the original paint and wheels.

Sad, sad man.

Which part of this post did you have difficulty with?

Comand, reversing camera, heated front seats.

KeV

As stated above.

Minimum.

Reversing camera
Command
Heated front seats

Nice to have

HK audio
Upgraded alloys
Sunroof

Reversing camera, heated seats, Comand are all pretty much expected. 19inch wheels and then just about anything else you can get like optional leather/trim, distronic etc....

The 19" wheels don't excite me as they mean a slower car and much greater risk of wheel damage.

HK is on my personal list.

Reversible mods are the best way, hence why I suggested a tuning box over a remap. The latter is money you don't get back whereas a tuning box will at least have some residual value (or can be moved between cars sometimes).

I think you will find that on a 3L diesel, 2 tonne CLS (even a chipped one), bigger wheels will affect your acceleration, so taking off at the light is out of question. The good thing is, other drivers seeing a CLS will be expecting an old man driving it so they'll cut you some of slack and let go first.

LOL!

J/k.

My suggestion would be to drive with standard wheels on and take it from there. You may find that they offer much better ride comfort and overall handling.

On the other hand, if you don't like the 20s, you can always list them here and somebody may pick them up from you.

Which part of this post did you have difficulty with?

I actually missed the one post giving advice. I apologise for that.

I have difficulty with your point that my reversible mods which preserve the original paint, wheels and suspension "decimating the value of my car". And the fact your being a **** for no reason.
