I guys,

My CLS has been playing up a bit recently. For a few months now it's been getting stuck in a gear once every three weeks say.
Today it got stuck in what feels like third and won't come unstuck.
Turning off and on again has not fixed it this time. What's the best advice? Get it checked by mb dealer or what?

Thanks in advance.

Do the brake lights work? If the Brake Light Switch Fails or sticks then you cant move it out of Park, but 3rd I'm not sure. I had to help my wife friend who got stranded in her E320 when she could not get it our of park. There is a whole at the front of the gear selection you can stick a pen down to get the shifter to move if its the brake light switch causing the problem.

Get the codes read via STAR, a good indie will be cheaper than the dealership. While your there get the ATF level checked as well.

If the level is fine sounds like the electroplate has failed, not uncommon.

Hi guys,

I had codes read by MB dealer (£50) and gearbox control unit diagnosed as fault. Replacement done for £900. However today it had a fault it seemed. As I pulled up to a junction the car began to shudder a lot. Also today it seemed to not change gear automatically, though when I went to change manually it did work.

I'll update when I know some more.

I'd be back down the main dealer after parting with £900 odd pounds.

surely work from mb dealer should be guaranteed for certain period of time

Your problem is the electro plate and solenoids.
Changed mine today and fully flushed all the fluid and all fine and silky now.
Sheap fix and just 4 hours work

Ok, well I'm going to let them figure it out. 4 hours labour is £500... So not that cheap to me :P

Hi guys,

Thought I'd update. They diagnosed the control unit as faulty. Changed out and works fine but a bit hesitant when changing up some gears. I'll let you know when I have more... Just one question if I may. Does anyone think a faulty O2 sensor could cause an issue wi the gearbox?
