I just HATE HATE HATE men who have a lot of HAIR is that why my kids call me baldy. SO if i said i paid £ 200.00 for the work on my car would you believe me 'cause its TRUE. i came away very very happy. Its prob' me but the notchy gearbox doesn't seem so bad,( still got noisey tappets though) but then that can wait a while,i can always turn the radio up.

The clutch probably caused the gearbox to be notchy by dragging a bit.

You may be able to fix the tappets by repeated flushing of the engine oil. Failing that take them out and clean them out with white spirit or similar.
They only tick because they're stuck, not necessarily worn.

Hi Dieselman, your prob' right about clutch, tappets were noisey when i first bought car, then had engine flush and all was well, had an oil change a couple of months ago(8000 miles) and the became noisey againam now wondering if iv'e got the wrong oil ,having said that they are getting quieter, only noisey on startup in the mornings when cold.
