Coil Springs Breaking

Salt killed my car. It's in the air, on the road and sprayed on us every time we take the ferry to the mainland.:(

How many people here wash the underside of their vehicle?

I never did, but I wish I had.

I regularly do and always have. I also always flush out all the crap from under my arches each time I wash the car. Hosepipe nozzle up under the lip of the wheel arch. My neighbors look at me as if i'm crazy but it's surprising the amount of dirt I flush out every time I wash the car.

Of course the ever increasing number of spring failures has nothing to do with 'sleeping policemen' and other 'safety' features. At all. Ever. Oh no.

cheers

Its possible that heat stress relieving and surface shotpeening - post winding/ pre coating in manufacture would largely alleviate the problem? However none of the motoring press-experts/consumer protection / government agencies appear willing to investigate this issue. I guess we could conduct a limited poll on here -- e.g. has anyone who has fitted high quality after market springs such as H&R or Eibach or any other manufacturer who claims to take extra strengthening /stress relieving steps in their manufacturing process experienced the same rapid failure of their springs ??
