Hi,

Have recently had my timing chain and tensioner replaced as it used to shake for a few seconds after cold start. They also replaced an injector as it was found to be almost on its last legs.

But have noticed since on cold starts, the engine takes longer to turn over?

Took it back to garage but they say they don’t hear it but each time I check it’s there. Even sent a recording. They checked and can’t see an issue. But while it was there they replaced a glow plug as eml light came on regarding one.

Still same issue with the longer turning over on cold starts.

Any ideas?

Do all the glow plugs need replacing even though I have no engine warning lights? Issue only happens the first time car is started on cold. Switch off and try again and it’s fine?

Glow plugs could be the issue but so could the glow plug relay (Right at front top of engine, next to engine hoist). Glow plug relays are cheap to source off eBay.

Take it off and disconnect the cables, inspect for corrosion inside (even if slight). Cleaning it up may not necessarily resolve your issue.

If it's a cold start issue and not a problem in warmer weather I would not worry about it much. Especially if you plan on selling it soon. Otherwise replace all 4 glow plugs and the relay. Original units are BERU I think.

Is it still making a noise at cold start or just taking longer to turn over? Is the stop start working? Do you let the glow plug light go out before starting?

Sorry just trying to understand a little better to see if I can help.

How old is your battery?
