Hi,
I am a newbie, just bought a 2014 E250Cdi (OM651)Used with around 22,000mile on the clock a month ago.
I have two findings and hopefully any experts can share some advice.

  1. When start the car first in the morning or with cold engine, it has the rattling sound coming from the drive belt area, feels like loosen bolt , for about 30 second and gone.

  2. Secondly, the LED headlight cooling fan randomly kicks in whenever the car was parked in unlock or disarm position, sometime it kept running for an hour, stop when press lock button.

Other than these , the car runs smooth and perfectly, been searching these issue on the web a week , read hundreds of pages, still not a clue.

Please help !!

Mine also makes that sound first thing on a morning but goes off but I’ve never timed how long it takes. My thought was maybe a/c compressor.

As for the fan noise when I stop and turn off the car before I get out I can hear a fan going but I’ve no idea where it is or what it is how did you know it was for the headlights?

Oh and mines a 2014 E250 75k on the clock.

Stick your ear on the headlight, you will feel it.

Brought the car to dealer for the above issue under warranty.
No 1. They have changed the aluminum air duct housing which causing the rattling, and the charged air bypass value inside does not shut correctly , problem solved.
No 2. Technician said the Fan randomly kicks in is by design as de-humidity feature according to the surrounding environment.
Just want to share my experience and hope this info helps !
