com surrogate has stopped working HELP

com surrogate has stopped working.
what does this mean,i have a folder on my desktop that contains several films,when i open the folder i get the above message flashing up,when i cancel it it re appears,i cant open a file"film" in the folder as its there all the time.
i can open say windows media player then direct it to the folder and file and its ok,just when i open the folder on the desktop i get the message

It's a known problem with Vista, something to do with video codecs that aren't officially supported by Vista.

Try changing the folder options so it shows icons rather than thumbnails, that goes for everyone as I've yet to see that feature do anything other than grind your machine to a halt while it loads the first frame of every video in the folder up!

Stay away from Vista,

it tries to do everything for you.
Too overpowering, that's why i am Mac

It's purely an issue with browsing in Vista. Here is the fix.
