Hello everyone,

Yesterday while I was searching eBay I found this auction
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=4643843967&rd=1&sspagename=STRK%3AMEWA%3AIT&rd=1

It’s about the new version of the European map for comand (v5.1). Since I live in Greece and since it’s the first version that includes the map of Greece, I am very interested in it.
Does anyone know if this version is released officially? If so what are the chances that I will have the new version installed in my new car (SLK200), which is going to be delivered beginning of August 2006?

Thank you in advance.

Hi, my wife's SLK200 had the v5.1 disk installed when we picked it up from Bremen in March.

I would have thought yours will have. The SLK has the Nav DVD in the boot.

Hope you enjoy the car, my wife loves it and she had a SLK230 before, she think this one is much better.

Is there anywhere I can find what the map coverage for a specific country is? Is there any kind of documentation along with the DVD mentioning the coverage?

No documentation but I can have a look at the weekend at Greece and see what it shows. I'll try and post some pictures ... any particular area you are interested in?

coverage is for Athens and the Major roads of Greece plus one or two other cities i.e. Patras. Approx 42% of the Population is mapped.

Is that NAVTEQ DVD-ROM Version 5.1 you're referring to?
Do you know the part number (B6782???? or A211827????)?

Map disk Part numbers are on my website http://www.mercupgrades.com in the comand aps faq section

Theres a 'good' ebay search link in the 'where to buy parts' section which finds most of the European comand-aps disks checking the appropriate mis-spellings etc as-well

Wow, that was fast :)
Before posting the above question I had a look on your site and there was still no part number for Version 5.1 and now 5 minutes later there is. :)

Do you know when will the 5.2 arrive?

You caught me out - i also edited the post as I mentioned 5.2 and I was confused with 5.1 :-) - They have asked the dealers to send back any 5.0 stock a couple of weeks ago and and 5.1 is due anytime (there is no stock in the UK of 5.1 yet according to my friendly dealer).

I guess 5.2 is anything from 3 months to a year away !

Cheers

Hi Richard,

Have you heard about a 6.2 Version for the cars listed in the title ?
Thanks

For the A/B/C/CLK/... I came across some part numbers that the dealer has checked into and they are awaiting a pricing enquiry - they are also trying to find out why its release is so close to 6.1 ..

6.2 so soon after 6.1? sounds like some errors on 6.1.
Do you know what the changes are Richard?
I'm still running V4, but may change to the latest if its worth it.

I have v6.1 - the differences that I can see from this package on eBay are 2 new vehicles added:

- Sprinter (ab 01/2006)
- Vito/Viano (ab 04/2006)
This would warrant an upgrade to v6.2.

V6.1 works fine, no problems. Except traffic info seems to stay on screen long after it's actually cleared. But i don't think this is a Mercedes problem, I think it's the data from ITIS (or whoever it is that sends it over the radio waves)

We all have to be very careful when talking about the different version numbers as Mercedes-Benz are running two incompatible DVD navigation systems.

I am only talking about the 211 system and at the beginning of 2004 we were on version 3.0. Every three months or so since then there is a new upgrade. My point is simply that if you wait for the latest version, you will be waiting for ever. If you really need it, go for the latest version and be happy. There will always be rumours about older versions being recalled because of some problem, I heard it first when version 3.1 (or was it 3.01?) was released; it was alleged that version 3 was defective. :)

If you use the navigation system, then I would recommend you get at least version 5.0 which is the first version that allows reception of TMC in the UK.

Right, and I see that 5.1 is now available, too.

It's nice to see that Mercedes-Benz has slowed down the release of Updates, plus a reduction in price. Version 5 was available at the beginning of this year.

Yup, I think we've had only two releases in 18 months now, although they weren't regularly spaced. How much is 5.1, officially?

I wish MB UK would offer a subscription service like they do in the US.
