Hi Guys.

I removed a COMAND NTG 2.5 from a 2009 B Class. The model is BZ9811.

I am wondering what this connector is on the Stereo, and what the cable is called? - Number 5

I believe it runs from the head unit to the glove box and allows you to plug in MMI cables.

Thanks

Thanks very much for that.

Answered all my questions.

From the thread:.
Connectors as follows :
1. Double white Connector - AM/FM Aerial

2. Blue Connector - GPS Aerial
3. reen Connector - Rear View Camera

4. Mustard Connector - Bluetooth connector

5. Middle square Connector - For Video In , Audio In Audio Out

6. Main Connector - Speakers, Fiber , Power.

Question is, what is the cable called?

Further to the above, the connector cable [5] goes back the glove box where the media interface is located.
The iPod and usb can then be connected to the media interface.
Where can I purchase the connector cable?

Hi All

The thing you show in the glovebox is the media interface socket. That connects to the Media Interface controller, which itself connects to (a) Power (b) The fibre optic network (which then connects to the fibre in the quad lock), (c) the "wakeup" line for the fibre-optic network.

So if you want to add Media Interface you need a retrofit kit. The head unit will need coding to enable Media Interface if it does not show in the Audio menu. If it does show in the Audio menu then the copper AUX connection (3.5mm socket) will be disabled as MI is used for AUX

MI retrofit kit: Media Interface (UCI) Retrofit Kit for A class and B class (W176/W246)
You'll also need the cable set which allows you to connect one of the following: Video-AUX, USB, IPhone-30-pin. If you want to use Lightning connector add a genuine Apple converter.

The main use of that dense connector you mention is Video in. This is either from the Video-AUX on the Media Interface, or if you have TV tuner from that. It is used for extra AUX in and video/audio output to the Rear Seat Entertainment system that you can get in the ML/GL

Cheers

Ah, sorry - already answered above :)

And this cable is available from where?

Thanks

What Richard was pointing out is, the original MMI control unit would have a MOST link to the COMAND unit (and other bits on the fibre optic network), but to retrofit it correctly, you'd need to install the special wiring harness, not just an electric connector cable, for the unit to work with your [newly retrofitted] COMAND.

So, the pictured cable alone won't do it (unless you're replacing it in a car already equipped with MMI).

Here's a retrofit WIS page - see the cable required.

Fibre optic retrofits are pretty complicated/delicate (and I've done my fair bit of various retrofits on essentially the same car as yours - A200 C169), and do require professional work.
I did actually consider this route, before deciding on an aftermarket model-specific unit ...

Seems simple enough.
Where does acquire the MOST cable?

Seems fairly straightforward.
Here comes stupid question.
Does 7 connect to the

And if so where can this be acquired/purchased?

I have the MMI and the head unit so would this electrical wiring harness [Part No A169 540 84 32] do the job.

Thanks

That part number is a factory option - you need a retrofit one, as linked by Richard.

Since you don't need the other parts (i.e. controller and MMI cable, etc), you can either ask Comand Online (if they have it separately), or a main dealer - to supply you with the retrofit wiring harness for COMAND option - just quote the WIS document number from above file.

Be extremely careful, when handling any fibre optic - any kink and it's gone.

Connecting it is very simple, and described in the file in great details.

These files should help with the instal.

Interesting day.

So the harness required doesn't have a part no as such. But has to be made up [by comandonline chaps]. But it comes with a load of other stuff, that I don't need. Now there may be a lifeline with kabeldavico we will see. Don't really want to buy an aftermarket one, might have the same problem with wiring.

One question - your current setup: is it Audio 20 NTG2, and do you have a CDC in the glove box?
