Does anyone know if it is possible to use the SatNav function whilst playing a single CD in the slot at the top of the Comand system on a W164 Mercedes ML (320 CDi Sport although don't think precise model should make any difference to the answer)? A friend says he thinks not - my main dealer doesn't know (brilliant!!!). If it is possible to run the two together are any of the SatNav functions not available (such as rerouting)?

I will be hacked off if that is the case as my dealer didn't warn me and I would have ordered the CD multichanger. Although I have opted for the (much criticised) IPOD integration kit, I was told at the time I would still be able to play CD's using the single slot.

Yes as the Dvd drive for the command is separate to the main head unit you will be able to play a CD at the same time as using the navigation system .

Good luck with your new car they look really nice with the amg kit !

What colour combonation did you go for ??

Thanks for that - have gone for iridium silver with privacy glass and AMG wheels. Haven't seen one identical yet but hope I got the choice right!

The ML units is same as the A/B/C/CLK/GL/R/Smart-for-four units (in terms of using same map and mapping software)

On my A class unit if I pop out the nav disk, it still gives me the instructions - but the detailed map disappears - which makes sense to me as the detailed map must use a lot of memory if it was to be kept in memory

I dont know what happens if you are using TMC or decide to re-route though

[ps, on the old COMAND system, it was not possible, nav cd had to be in all time whilst navigating]
[pps, if you change your mind about the IPOD kit, then goto the dealer before the car arrives, as retrofitting CD changer is about same amount of work as fitting the IPOD kit, so the dealer could fit it instead of IPOD easily]
[ppps. I put the CD changer in because it plays MP3s, [whereas that version of COMAND-APS doesnt]] and I dont have an IPOD..

I dont think that is correct on the European ML. The A/B/C/CLK/ML/GL/R/Smart-for-four have all in one units [i.e 1 DVD drive for map disk OR CD], the E/CLS/SL/S/CL/Maybach have their nav units in the boot. The USA version of the ML seems to have 2 drives in the COMAND unit, one for CD and one optionally for navigation.

However, see my post above, you can pop the nav disk and put an audio CD in once navigation route has been calculated
