Comedy priced 123

I think he has inadvertantly added an extra nought to his "Buy it Now" price. Diesel but manual gearbox? Oh no sir.

It is normally aspirated.

T denotes touring I think.

If it was a turbo it would say turbodiesel on the rear ;)

Hi all

I like it but she is too exbemzive really, it would need to be a 300 and auto to coax that amount of money from me..

230K

It would need to be immaculate, a 300 auto, a full documented MB history, all singing all dancing car with 1/4 of its miles with a full MOT and 12 months tax.

He can't even be ****d to sort the central locking out and expects big money for it.

Exactly!

He had the whole interior retrimmed, probably at reasonable expense but didn't do an "easy fix with vac hose and pump"?

Hmm!

The price is a joke...

You can buy a early W140 (K/L/M plates) with half the milage for less that are in full working order then his asking price for that W123...

I think the 240 manual is probably not too bad as far as performance goes, it's the autos which are really slow.

I haven't read theough the ad but if the general condition is as good as it looks I think he may well make a couple of grand or so. People like the 123 estates.

The 240 (manual)I had was awful and needed thrashing just to be driven normally. My 300d that I had felt like a super car next to it - they're slow!

72bhp with 200000 ++++ miles on it won't push a 1500kg car along at a good rate!

It's worth £1500, but only if as good as the seller states. Realistically £1000 As it's restored and has leather. The lack of any mentioned service history knocks its value.

I don't personally care either way - but to quote from this thread:

rather than just knock it, if you don't want to buy from there, why comment at all.

and

No one is ever forced to purchase anything. If you dont like it then walk away.

Not sure I understand why it's a big deal on that thread and not on this one...

*shrug* as I said, I don't really care either way, just interested at the duality ;-)

And if you've nothing to say, and don't personally care, why bother posting?

Just a thought.......;)

It's a spotted on ebay item and very expensive. Most of the items talked about on this section are picked apart - people love to moan.

Well I am very flattered at the response my car has got:) my comedy pricing antics clearly work:), This was done because A, I thought it would make more peole look at the car which appears to have worked, and B because someone might actually pay the price, My reserve incidentally is what the resto cost me a little over half the buy it now price it does not include the original cost of the car or my own time and effort. Yes this car is old and slow, I do not deny it but it is in good condition as stated, Had I wanted a plasticky over computered 95 E class I would have bought one, likewise If I had wanted a fiat panda I would have bought one. these cars if maintained and cared for which this one is will do 500,000 miles there are many documented cases so at 232,000 it is nowhre near worn out and will cruise comfortably at 70 ,It is collectable and is honestly described, I got it re-trimmed as a dummy run for a 280CE which I am also restoring at a cost of £1800 with a couple of other tidy-ups to the bodywork, As I said in my listing if I would encourage people to veiw and drive the car so that they know on what they are bidding, I have nothing to hide and have listed my car honestly, tell me is there a law against me trying to sell MY CAR for as much as possible to minimise my financial loss, I dont believe so nuff said?

Welcome to the forum ;)

Fair play.

The thing with any old restoration is that you never get back what you put in.

They're usually a labour of love that someone else gets the benefit from if you sell it on.

At least get the central locking sorted, old chap. The small things make all the difference;)

PS my a 300d I had (same engine, sort of) had 934k on it and another had 447k when I sold them.

Have you noticed on these 'spotted on ebay' threads where a car gets dissected..... about a page or two in, someone always tips off the ebay seller who then joins to defend themselves and then are never heard from again .... ;)

Happened with a substandard gear knob a while back too .....

Can't beleive that someone who has never been a member suddenly finds the forum halfway through the auction .....

Either way it was a good laugh anyway... :)
