Hi i'm Aron from hk and currently i'm using a W202 C280 with straight 6 engine. i'm going to get more ideas about the new W203 C-class. (planning to get one :) )
in Hong Kong, for 4 doors saloon, the models are C200K 1.8L, C240 2.6L ? C320 and AMG C32. i think the C240 or C320 are really powerful enough. but, how about the C200K? any comments on it?

Thanks

Aron

The C200k is a match for the C240 if not more useable . The supercharger makes a huge diference to the driving experence.

I would personally buy a C220 CDI or a C270 CDI for C240 money if i had the choice. If not , i would take the C200k over a C240

Thanks for your reply!!
but...
can a 1.8L engine do a good job onto a c-class?
i haven't tried a kompressor engine indeed.

Yes , the C200k has 163bhp and 240nm and the C240 has 170bhp and 240nm.

So , basically there is very little diference with the engines when you take into account the price diference , extra weight of the C240 and the MPG.

Interesting useful comments Fuzzer, what I wanted to hear! :D

I'm considering getting a C200k Sports Coupe early next year. Can't really justify the C230k so will go for 'loaded' C200k instead, probably in Tansanite or more more likely Obsidian metallic (wot no silver!)

My 'money' mind says I should get the C180k (143bhp?) as on paper 0-60 is only about 0.6 seconds or so less than the C200k, BUT when mated to the obligatory auto box I think the C200k will be more 'usable'. Also (dons his flame retardent suit in prearation for being flamed) I have this thing about not having a C180, want a bigger number on the back even if it will cost me an extra £1500! :( No offence intended to anyone, please don't take any.

Any comments Fuzzer on the usability of c180k/c200k especially when mated to the obligatory auto?

Apart from the increased smoothness of the of the engine and the nice noise it makes, I think that the C240 is fairly redundant in the range. IMO, if you really want a worthwhile improvement in performance and smoothness over the smaller engines you need to step up to the C320.

Both C180k and C200k are great when on the auto box. Ive got a C180k and its fast enough for me really. Lots of low down torque without any lag and 40+ mpg on the motorway. Best of both worlds. C180k is only doing 2650rpm at 80 and 3000 at 90 .... still pulls well for the size of the car etc. C200k is noticeably faster . Ive driven my C180k and jumped into a c200k and felt the diference. Its all down to budget . I would also like to spec a car up but you will loose all the option money . Go for a bigger engine and you will loose less money .

I would go for either the C230k or the C220 CDI if i was you. 220 CDI will more than likely work out cheaper in the long run with MPG and resale values etc. Diesel is the way forward folks .... jump on the bandwagon :)

I would agree with that statement Jason.

Fuzzer..... 'Ive driven my C180k and jumped into a c200k and felt the diference' - how much of a difference was it? How noticeable? Worth the £1500? Btw, 2650rpm @ 80 is pretty impressive, nice.

I probably could've worded 'loaded' a bit better, probably meant 'loaded' in my terms for a car, you don't know what I drive at the mo!!!! I'd go for the Evo Pack (similar to the Avantgarde on saloons), auto, metallic and leather. Presumably these wouldn't lose too much money as they're making the car more desireable? I'd probably also go for Parktronic, Comfort Pack (folding mirrors for the garage) and may be Xenons - presumably it is these I'd lose the £ on as they aren't 'essentials' but more personal options? Views???? Thanks.

These are almost essentials on a Mercedes nowdays to sell it. ;) ;)

As you say these are Personal and not sellable items mate. :D

seems that diesel engine is a good choice!! but...
our dealer doesn't import diesel one :(
i know the C200K was at first the 2.0L one but now it's 1.8L. any comments about the "old" 2.0L vs the "new" 1.8L ?? coz' in the second hand market, we can easily find the 2.0L one.

The old 2L is a bit rough compared to a 1.8L twinpulse. The new 1.8 has Twin balancer shafts on it and is a lot more economical. I had a 2L courtesy car and it was getting 18-20mpg on the same run that my 1.8L gets about 24mpg on. I noticed the older engine was a lot noisier as well.

The new Twinpulse engine is Mitsubishi sourced. There is supposed to be a C200 Direct injection Kompressor coming out as well which is pretty quick and economical.

Take my advice Don't be fooled with options. You get next to nothing for them when you trade the car in but the dealer will punt the options when he is selling it.

The two things you need are : Metallic Paint and Auto. Everything else is something that you want and arent bothered about throwing your money away on. Leather seats are worth about £300 on a trade in 3 years down the line. I dunno if Xenons are worth any more , parktronic maybe £100 or something and the comfort pack will be worthless. Telephone prewire is a worthwhile option with all this new BS with the using the phone when youre driving.

What im saying to you is , if you want it get it for yourself rather than thinking about resale. Don't get anything too wild with the colour scheme either as its reflected in the resale. The worst colours for resale in the W203
are Tit Red and Solid white. Anything else you will get away with. People like darker interiors.

I know this from experence after i had a FULLY loaded C240 W202 and got a pittence when i took it back.

Evo pack is nice ;)

Not meaning to offend anyone , but i speak the truth.

Wise words Jason, always good to hear from someone who has had experience and tells it like it is. That's the way I like it, I want to go into this with my eyes open and wallet only half open!!

Didn't realise the new engines were sourced from Mitsubishi - do they buy in the whole unit or is it a joint venture? Can't beat Japanese reliability, my father had 3 Mitsis with a B*W inbetween, guess which he had most probs with!

As you say, auto and metallic are a must, and probably even leather these days - probably going for Obsidian Black with charcoal interior, the light interior would be a pain to keep clean.

Sounds like wouldn't get much back on the Parkchronic, but it may save me a few scrapes, likewise the £400 Comfort pack with the folding mirrors so I don't have to worry when putting it in the garage. As I'm probably looking at keeping it for 5yrs, these 2 won't be too bad and may make life a bit easier so i think i can justify them.

The only iffy one that I have probs justifying is the Bi-Xens, just vanity on my behalf as my mileage is low and mostly around town. I don't drive much on unlit streets, the new halogens will presumably look the same as the Xens when off as they have clear lenses in the facelift and I won't have to worry about people flashing me (my previous thread!). In my case, the extra £500 just buys 'nicer' looking lights at night which I will find hard to justify as I don't do the mileage to justify Xens, unless of course it will make my car undesirable to not have them in 5yrs - that's the question?????

As u say, Evo Pack is gorg and in my opinion a must as it makes the car and I think a good option and should hold a large part of its value.

Just need to find out when the new nano-particle paint will be available on the C and the facelift comes out!

Black paint is also a pain to keep clean

But it looks darn sexy! :D

Out of interest, would you buy another in Obsidian and do u have many probs with swirls over and above what you'd expect anyway, i.e. is it noticeably worse in Obsidian than say Tansanite?

I'm hoping from reading about it that the new nano-particle clearcoat paint will afford a fair amount of protection from scratches and therefore help to justify having Obsidian!

But rumour has it that you give lessons. Just look at the shine on your car :D One to be truly proud of.

Im not saying don't get the bi Xenons :) they look nice .. Just don't expect too much back for options when you come to sell the car. Spend as much as you feel comfortable spending.

My next car will have Bi xenon , Bose , Telephone prewire , heated seats , metallic , leather and auto. Its just things i quite fancy having and are difficult to retrofit unlike comand. :bannana:

about the engine, no doubt Mits. is GOOD at it "NOT the GDi engine"
but...
will a C200K lost its "soul" due to the Japs engine?
seems that a sweet torque curve is one of the "trade mark" of German engine.

If I was buying a brand new car and had the choice, maybe not, But when its clean it does look superb !! If you enjoy washing your car like i do  I'd say go for it !!.
My car has swirl marks on it which are noticable in the sun from certain angles, But thats mainly because I bought the car 3 years old and I don't think the previous owner had ever washed it properly, just used car washes .
I should imagine Tansanite is pretty similar too.
I'd say Obsidian is a goer
