Coolant Leak

Hi All,

My 300SE (W126) has recently started dripping coolant, especially after a run and the engine is hot. I have had a look over it and can find no obvious leak, it appears to run down the side of the engine but is difficult to trace. Whilst the car can still be driven, it is a pain and can lose most of its coolant in a 40 mile trip, regular top ups are beginning to annoy.

I have been advised by a friend to use Bars Leaks to stop any future leakage. Having never used such a substance, I thought I would ask you good people if anyone has prior experience, and if it is a good option?

Thanks all.

An idea, if you say it leaks down the side of the engine, then its a possible core plug failure.

I would agree with that, and I don't think your Barrs leak will resolve the problem. A core plug failure on an older car is usually a sign of the core plug getting so thin it cracks and leaks, it has corroded away.

Don't use Bars. It filths up the whole system and corrodes the rubber hoses.
