Mercedes Benz ML 270 CDI Auto 2002
Hi
I
am thinking of replacing my Alternator on my - Mercedes ML 270 cdi Auto 2002 W163 - VIN: WDC1631132A351853
How will i know which is the correct alternator for my vehicle, as they have different Amperage ranges etc.

A few days ago I went through a deep puddle or rather a flooded road going to Manchester, and soon after, my battery warning light has started coming on and off intermittently ( every 40 seconds or so ), and the alternator is now not charging...... ALSO the alternator bearing is also become somewhat noisy !

GET A RECONNED EXCHANGE ONE

Your current (!) alternator should have the output marked on it.

Use the rating of your old one as a guide ? modern alternators are self contained -your car will cope with a range of alternator outputs --- higher outputs than standard are only necessary if you anticipate constant running extra loads- winches lights etc ---its more likely that sheer physical size/ fit may be a constraint altho there should be plenty space in an ML ---- any Bosch/VALEO/ Lucas vehicle electrical specialist will be able to advise/ fit on a choice of suitable replacements
