Had the coupe for a month now...a few problems at first but slowly working though them thanks to the help from this forum !! keep up the good work !!

My newest quibble....

I noticed that although the passenger door on my late model 124 coupe closes with very little effort the drivers door requires a lot more effort.

Looking from the outside - I noticed that the chrome strip just above the plastic panels on the doors was out of line. The door was in line at the front but quite a few mm down at the handle side.

I took the car to a local bodyshop and got someone to align the door.

He's definately lined it up as the panels/chrome strip match good now -

But problem is that doo still requires about twice as much force to shut as passenger side but more worringly ..when I shut the door now the window does not sit flush with the rear window and when you drive it sounds like the door is open.

Only way around is to get in the car put the window down a cm and then shut it. It gets worse when you leave the car - you have to put the window down and then shut the door but as I have a closure alarm I can then get the window to go up and seat properly.

I have looked at both sides and they look pretty much the same to me except on the driver side the window seems not able to get past this very thin rubber along top of door frame.

Any suggestions will be welcomed....

the windows have lots of adjustment in them - and its a pig of a job... pull off the door card and start playing.. be prepared to be there for several days to get it right (i have been playing with mine for ages, have yet to get it right, but thats not helped by the fact that one window was broken by previous owner / scum nicking a handbag/laptop...)

Guy is right.... I've been playing with mine for ages and still suffer similar symptoms.

I'm begining to think that the glass curvature isnt quite right as the problem window has been replaced by autoglass at some point and was never the same since.

There are two virticle adjustment screws and some horizontal ones also (thanks guy) but expect to be playing around with it for a fair while b4 getting it perfect.

Aaarrgh...

I thought it would be a bit simple....

In this weather - there is no way I'm going to be out adjusting windows - bloody freezing....

I might try to locate a merc bodyshop / specialist and give it in.

Will let you know how I get on - I will try and see what they do to fix the problem and report back.

i have had a similiar problem on my clk

first a "driveway" mechanic had a go when replacing a window seal - waste of time, actually he actually made it worse, may have been able to get it better had he spent more time on it

secondly tony purslows had a go for £300, MADE IT WORSE STILL, now i have a lot of time for this garage but this job they ballsed up

bottom line i have spent about 6 months living with having to pop the window up and down everytime i open and close the door UNTIL

i put my car in to Gary Fox Auots in Northfield for a rust spot bodywork job, not only was the rust spot on the boot perfectly repaired, but he also fixed the window in 2 hours!!!!

Gary Fox labour rate is less than £50/hour and in his forecourt i saw an SL55 AMG, S500 x3, a couple of jags, 2004 M3 cab (my mates) and a myriad of nice motors...

HIGHLY RECOMMENDED

That sounds very promising Sasha.

Will definately look them up early in the new year - until then will have to put up with the annoying thing...

Have you got a contact number ? I'll call them and get a quote etc ...
