Couple of Problems

Can anyone advise me on these 2 problems with my new car?

Have noticed that the footbrake is very stiff and doesn't seem to do much to secure the car unless I really force it and there is no "click" like when I pulled the handbrake in the last car up. Not so much of a problem as I can always use park but annoying nonetheless. I have also noticed that sometimes when it is released the light on the dashboard doesn't go off.

I have also spotted that the interior lights don't come on when I open the doors (any of them) but do come on when I flick the switch to always on. Am I missing a setting on the dash computer controls?

Am going to take the car back to the dealer but wanted a rough idea of what may be wrong so I don't get fobbed off.

Thanks folks.

Simon

probably worn pads or shoes or both. the doors have a light sensor. what about the rear interior light, does that come on?

the parking brake click is made by a piece of plastic with a saw tooth side to it, these commonly break and are easily replaced to get you your clicking noise. the warning light might be staying on because the pedal is slow to return or not returning all the way. there is a shackle for the parking brake cables underneath a panel underneath the rear seats, this usually gets a bit stiff and once lubed and freed off will allow the pedal to return quicker.

not sure about the interior lights. all i can suggest is that you check that the switch in the right position (there are 3 positions it can be in)

The rear light only comes on if I switch it on from the console. Not when I ioen the doors. Its really strange.

A minute while i check my lights position

Oh sorry avantgarde 203 then. All i can say is check the light position, and then the door contact sensors

Just noticed you said that the doors have a light sensor. Might give it a try in the dark - do you think that might be it? Do your interior lights come on during the day?

Had a look at the pad on the rear and they do look quite worn so may need replaced. Noticed the dealer only did the front, probably to get rid of the warning on the dash! Will be having words over that!!

Make sure the front roof mounted switch is in the middle position........

the rear brakes have pads and shoes. shoes for the parking brake and pads for normal braking. they don't always have sensors on the back

Not a light sensor,i said a contact sensor. the light positon on the roof should be checked as there are six of them.

6??? I have 3. are you including the reading light switches and the switch for the rear light?

I'll try the middle setting although it is the fr right setting that has the pic of the car with open doors.

Thanks for all your help guys.

you do need it in the middle setting. left is on all the time and right is to switch them off if the doors are left open

Ahhh - how thick do I feel!! They still don't come on but will check again when it is dark. The auto headlights don't even come on yet 'cos its too light.

Too light? Where do you live?!

Livingston just outside Edinburgh. Still too light for house lights. won't get dark for another hour or so.
