I have driven Mercedes for the last 10 years with no problem. Last year, I invested in the new C Class Sport Plus, which has 18" diamond alloy wheels. In the last three months, I have had two cracked rims. Mercedes tell me that they have not had anyone else reporting problems with these wheels, but when I called a repair shop this morning, they told me they had repaired significant numbers of these wheels.

Has anyone experienced this problem and, if so, have you pressed Mercedes to deal with it under the vehicle warranty?

I had all 4 replaced under warranty for corrosion in the first 6 month from new, not noticed any cracks though, where should we be looking, how did you spot them?

On each occasion, I appeared to have a puncture - the tyres were losing pressure. The garage fitted new tyres, citing damage to the existing tyres, and only when the pressure dropped again overnight did they find the cracks in the alloys. The first crack appeared in the middle of the rim; the other on the lip. Very frustrating.

What were the signs of corrosion on yours?
