Creaking From front suspension

I'm getting a creaking noise from the front suspension when going over speed bumps on my newly acquired 300se . It sounds like it is up top somewhere and is worse on the right hand side.

It actually got worse after I washed under the arches with the hosepipe while washing the car today.

I'm unfamiliar with the W126 suspension set up. Are there any bushes or linkages that require greasing on the front suspension?

Also, is there an online manual I can download or view?

Thanks,

Stu

you could try taking off front wheels and using wd 40 or 3in1 oil spray up the bushes and rubber linkages i have done this in the past and it has removed it for me i know we have to wash under the archers form the salt on the roads

this just helps for me any way

this may be of interest?

PeachPartsWiki: Suspension Bearing Bracket guide rod mount replacement
and
PeachPartsWiki: Guide Rod, Lower Control Arm Bushing and Eccentric Pin Replacement

and this especially PeachPartsWiki: Upper Ball Joint Replacement since it refers to the upper ball joint--- its for a w123 but I think the suspension design is similar in the W126 ??? çàï÷àñòè Mercedes: êîäû çàï÷àñòåé ìåðñåäåñ On that basis I would guess either the top ball joint or the rubber bushes associated with the suspension arm or the roll bar flexible mount on it has failed /is worn ? Chances are that you may have to replace the top arm complete with bushes [supplied as a complete unit?] unless some lubrication quietens things down. :dk:

Mines always done this. While the wheels were off recently, i took the opportunity to spray all the rubber bushings and joints on that offending right side with silicone spray. Didnt hold out much hope, but, noise gone! And hasnt come back yet. Didnt expect it to be that easy, lol..
Ps WD40 is a solvent so i would probably avoid that one just in case, silicone is safe for the rubber.

As above, its probably a rubber bush thats dried out

Excellent. I'l be doing that tomorrow for sure.

Cheers,

Stu

ianrandom is making a very important point. The wrong type of lubricant will give the same initial benefit in that the noise is likely to go BUT, rubber comes from a tree and unless the correct lubricant is used, the longer term damage will be much worse than the initial problem.

'Red grease' was the product I have known for many years that is specifically designed as a rubber lubricant. This is not a spray but I'm sure a bit of label reading will ensure you use the correct product.

Let us know what you end up using and if a spray can is the solution.

Good luck.

With the warmer weather yesterday the creaks totally vanished!

Possibly more water vapour in the warmer air?? or simply softer/" flowing" rubber. Either way result!
