I have a 1993 R129 300 SL it does not have cruise control and I would like to fit an after market one but fit a genuine switch to the steering column.
Is it difficult to get the steering wheel off ?
Is it a press fit do I require a puller ?
What is required to disconnect the air bag while a take the steering wheel off?
Is the plastic cover over the cruise control a different shape if so will I have to purchase the cover as well as the switch ?

Ha ha..

Flipping heck...posted at 4 O'clock this morning, chasing at 8 O'clock.

The airbag unit is screwed on from the back of the wheel, the wheel is held on with a nut, but should then pull off with a bit of impact from the back, the column shroud can be cut to accept the stalk.

As above the screws from the back are torx T25 iirc. The wheel itself has bigger torx which is usually very tight - easiest way is impact wrench - otherwise long wrench with torx bit. Just disconnect battery when working on airbag.

Sorry fellas thanks so much for you help I forgot about the time delay as I was getting replies from a friend in the states at the same time.
I must say this is a great site and over the past 2 years there has always been someone to help .
I am an old retired manufacturing manager maybe my agressive management style is showing if so I am sorry.
