I am upgrading the factory stock D2S 4300k xenon bubs to 6000k as to me the 4300K bulbs have a yellow tint that I don’t like and look dated – back in March I upgraded my fog lamps on the W203 to a 8K xenon HID kit which looks awesome and LED 501 side light bulbs – as far I am aware the BMWs have 5K as stock and look much better than the 4300K Merc xenon bulbs and sharper. I am fully aware that 6K bulbs will have less light output in terms in luminance but visually will look brighter and sharper and more trendy in comparison.

Therefore, would you guys go for 5k or 6K? -Feel free to comment…I am inclined to go for the 6K…

High Quality D2S Upgrade Xenon HID Headlight Bulb - 6000k...

Liking my 5Ks a lot, plenty of crisp white light and match the 501 sidelights from KHz perfectly.

Personally, I wouldn't consider an inferior light output as an "upgrade".

4300K for me. Headlamps are functional items first and foremost.

I have 6k's and they are very bright with a blue (ish) tint. No issues driving at night compared to my 124 they are fantastic. They also match the blue leds from Killerhertz.

4300K to me looks very dated and not modern enough now - 5K is a good compromise as pure white light is emitted with no hint of the horrible yellow and still gives good light output in terms of luminance and looks good and will compliment my 8k xenon fog kit very nicely.BMW fit 5K stock xenons on their cars as standard and they look way sharper than the standard Merc 4300K bulbs...

Also, Philips make top notch products hence the 5K are an upgrade cosmetically without majority hindering the level of luminance.

The laws of optical physics and the response of the human eye do not vary in line with fashion. :D

I think I'm widdling into the wind with this discussion, aren't I?

LOL - you stick to your dated 4300K "old man look" and I will do as I please with upgrading mine to 5K.....:D

I will, thanks. Anyone know where to get D1S in Selective Yellow? :p

My previous car (a most excellent Mk3 Mondeo) had its interior illumination upgraded from a single incandescent bulb to many tastefully-installed cool-white LEDs, which made a huge difference to both style and function.

Reverting to the S211, which has a large number of lovely rustic-style orange-yellow bulbs is like stepping out of a modern mobile phone shop into a candlelit farmhouse. It's lovely.

Where are my pipe and slippers?

I'm sure I read somewhere that as of recently MB are fitting 5Ks as standard.

The new MBs to me do look like 5K xenon bulbs appearance wise as no hint of the yellow which I think is the correct way forward in terms of style and not vastly compromising the luminance factor and they have matching LED side light bulbs as standard now as well by MB.....:)

Before I upgraded my standard halogen fogs to the 8K xenon kit the horrid standard halogen bulbs nicely matched my 4300k DS2 bulbs.... :D

I have ordered a set of the D2S 5K Phillips bulbs today….:)

Once I have seen how good they look I will do the same to the W209.
