Hi guys, first post here and just looking for a little advice, I drive a 2014 E-Class 220 W212 and on a recent 300 mile trip from Newcastle to London I noticed bmy ECO light on the cluster was staying steady orange and not turning green, I managed to get it to turn green for the first time yesterday (for 2 minutes) while on a shorter 3 mile run.

When traveling around London today I started the car and the DAB was stuck on 'Device Unavailable'

Please, please someone tell me it's just a auxiliary battery fault and nothing more sinister as I know ECO has very strict rules

Cheers, Liam

I find my ECO light reluctant to go green during the winter, presumably as there tends to be greater load on the electrical system - lights, heated window & seats, etc. It helps if I turn off the aircon. I had trouble with my auxiliary battery last year, ended up getting it replaced under warranty, but one of the first signs of the problem was that the ECO displayed disappeared completely, HOLD didn't work. I would suggest you try turning off your air and as much electrics as you safely can (not suggesting you turn off lights at night!!) and see if that helps the light to go green.

Can't offer any suggestion about the DAB I'm afraid. Mine works, but seems a lot more likely to drop out for a few seconds than my wife's Ford. I often have Radio 2 on and when a programme breaks to the news, DAB often seems to drop out for a few seconds.

Further to my earlier post about the reluctance of my ECO symbol to go green, my own car was in for a service today and they gave me an 18 reg C Class estate with only 6k on the clock for the day. Start/stop hardly worked at all, despite doing a round trip of about 100 miles. Air con was off, nice day so no lights or wipers.

Incidentally, my service was a B3 on an E Class E350, 2015 with 46k miles. Garage quoted me £780 until they remembered I had service plan. Glad I did, and makes the £35 a month for the plan seem very good value!

Is stop start worth the agro, if it is intermittent it is dangerous at busy junctions, if your battery is low the system will turn off auxiliaries like audio, heated seats, aircon etc, you are constantly replacing battery's that are actually OK but just need charging, brake hold won`t work unless stop/start is green. Did a Merc do this before stop/start, NO. Get rid of it, try this simple hack, disconnect the negative lead battery sensor on main battery, just unclip the sensor, stop/start will now stay yellow. The alternator will fully charge your battery ( it now charges as a normal alternator not a smart alternator ) unlike the 80% charge with the sensor in place, with a fully charged battery all the auxiliaries will stay on, you will loose brake hold otherwise the car drives as normal with NO warning lights on dash, try it, if don`t like just reconnect the sensor. I have been running this hack on a 2012 cgi c-class coupe for about 4 months with no issues, I just wanted to get rid of stop/start.
