According to the handbook (:wallbash:) the Comand in my S212 should have DAB radio. Can I find it? Nooooo.

So...was it an optional extra it may not actually have or am I just being silly?

Could I tell from the spec sheet in EPC?

Ta.

Oasis report, qu'est-ce que c'est?

Spec sheet says:

512. Comand APS with DVD changer.
81p. Comand with nav update.

No mention of DAB. :dk:

Not something that can be retro-fitted then?

Reason I ask is cos swmbo has DAB in wee Pug car and it gets Smoooooth Radio when it's out of range of FM. And I like Smooth Radio.

Yup it can - we do quite a few. Need to know if your car is NTG4 (PCMCIA) slot COMAND, or NTG4.5 (SD slot) COMAND

If its NTG4 there are aftermarket integrated options with a windscreen antenna, or "as per factory", and NTG4.5 its as per factory with an aftermarket version due in about 6-8 weeks too

Cheers

Richard

And of course there are ones that do FM repeating of the DAB signal that are very cost effective but not properly integrated with COMAND

NTG4. Is later version any easier to use and worth the upgrade?

OK, with NTG4 you have 2 choices

a) As per factory (only supports DAB) but antennas etc all hidden
b) in2digi - visible antenna (a bit ugly), supports DAB+ too,

Both are used identically via the COMAND in a new 'DAB' menu that appears.
(a) is more than (b)

Talk to alfie ( [email protected] ) for pricing - he will need your VIN.

You can only (properly) put NTG4.5 in certain model year vehicles. I don't think its worth the upgrade in W212 as NTG4 in W212 with the latest firmware and maps gives you bluetooth audio streaming and 7 digit postcode.

If you want a temporary (and I mean temporary, as you'll get annoyed at the feedback during signal loss every now and then)

I have one of these in mine, connected via AUX. Sound quality is superb, except for the feedback. If I was keeping my car I'd definitely go the retrofit with Richard

(Apologies for the giant link, doing this on my phone)

I wouldn't bother with DAB mine just switches to FM every two minutes due to signal. It only works I find on an open motorway. Around town its hit and miss.

Got a new transporter van tonight with DAB built in, tried to find 1Xtra and it only came up with BBC Asian network (on 1xtras band) was outside the office so loads of buildings surrounding me

Got onto the A14 and I'm guessing the signal got better as it switched to 1xtra. Weird!

Be very interested to know more about the NTG4.5 with the aftermarket version.
Had a quote for the factory fit version, which was expensive approx £1300 .

We can do genuine DAB in NTG2.5, NTG4, NTG3, NTG5. Aftermarket DAB which completely emulates factory DAB in NTG 2.5, NTG4, NTG3.

There is an aftermarket DAB system which emulates factory in NTG 4.5 due imminently. Its just being tested.

Personally I wouldnt go with anything that uses the FM input or AUX input. they just dont integrate that well nor do they give the best results. We also offer a cracking solution if the car has USB, at £299 inc Fitted.

Alfie is there anything you can do to the standard NTG 4.5 DAB solution to improve its performance?

Continually losses signal in a W212 E class 2012 vintage. It's been in an out of Dealers since new, but despite numerous firmware updates it's still no better.

If its under warranty then ask them to replace the antenna amp with the new part and also check the routing of the antenna cable is not near any other high current wiring.

It's now out of warranty, plus I was told that the new antenna amp wouldn't help, when I asked the dealer before.
