Hi,

My W204 220 CDi went in for a service recently and I asked the MB dealer how much it would cost to retrofit a DAB unit to my Audio 20 with UMI. After the service they told me it was not possible.............are they correct or did they just not want to do it?

Cheers,
Geoff.

You need an Audio 20 that has a fibre optic port, AFAIK the single cd Audio 20 units dont have them where as the Audio 20 units with 6 disc changer built in do.

Ah ok, thanks npuk. So are you saying that I need to upgrade my audio 20 first before upgrading to DAB?

Cheers,
Geoff.

im sure comand online will have some sort of solution

Yes if your unit has no fibre as if you want the factory Mercedes DAB system you need a unit with fibre optic.

Contact Comand Online as advised above, IIRC they have an aftermarket solution available too.

Exactly as NPUK has stated.

Yes it is possible but you must have a head unit that has fibre. Its only the Audio20 6 disk version and comand that has this.

Thanks for the replies guys, this is looking like quite an expensive upgrade I think !!
Is the aftermarket solution a good replacement for the MB one, do you have any more info on this?

Thanks,
Geoff.

There will be an aftermarket DAB module that completely emulates factory DAB, coming out mid next year.

PURE HIGHWAY 300Di DAB

My Car is a 53 reg w211 Av Saloon E3201cdi with full comand as original fit. I am considering the addition of some form of DAB, the PURE Highway 300Di looks a nice bit of kit, and inexpensive, also adds an ipod connector.

From what I can see, it would be difficult to fit to my model car, in particular where the control unit/display would go on the dash, and how to route the cables to it, not through airvents methinks! So I do not think it would be an easy fit in my car, even though there will be an AUX-IN on the back of the head unit.

Qu1 - Has anyone fitted/used this new DAB?

Qu2 - Is DAB something we should be fitting yet? It seems doubtful FM will be shut down, I think?

Q2 - DAB is great, so many stations that aren't available on FM. For me, Kerrang and Planet Rock, but each to their own. At the moment I'm thinking of swapping out Command for an up to date system. Its so expensive to add DAB or Ipod functionality, bought an all in one unit for my sons Skoda. It does everything perfectly, CD/DVD/USB/SD Card, Nav, TV, DVD, FM/AM/DAB radio, Reverse Camera, Bluetooth......All on a 7" HD touch screen. Took two hours to install, that included fitting the reverse cam.

It does everything and cost £300 for the full kit including all antennas and leads.

I would like to keep MB kit as original in the car, but the fact is MB don't sell what I want for my car.

Q2 - DAB is great

Looked for this online, only found a small cube wifi radio. What model exactly do
You have?
Have seen Pioneer double din units touch screen for £700/£1000 depending on spec but no connections to st wheel button

What model DAB have you fitted?

I'll check tomorrow, it's not fitted in my CLK, its in my sons Skoda. But for the price its excellent. I'm pretty sure it won't integrate into the command system on Mercedes.
