I wouldnt drive it like that. If too much PS leaks, you will loose your power steering and it will cause damage to the ps pump.

I'm afraid I agree.I wouldnt drive it like that. If too much PS leaks, you will loose your power steering and it will cause damage to the ps pump.
If it were me i'd clean and rough up the plastic around the hole making sure nothing dropped in the reservoir. Then smear some Araldite rapid on a small square of kitchen towel and place over the hole. Ive done similar before for emergency bodges and it works surprisingly well - a bit like using fibreglass. You can always add another layer of Araldite once the patch has set.If it is time critical to use the vehicle then cant you effect some sort of repair , regardless of aesthetics ?
It will need replaced ASAP but there are many adhesives / silicones / epoxies that would keep it sealed until a replacement is fitted.

Someone mentioned a paper towel over the hole in my existing PS tank with Araldite but how would paper towel work exactly?!
Wow ok. Not sure I’m brave enough to trust a piece of paper to do that lol.Put a piece of paper towel over the hole and epoxy over it and onto the surrounding plastic of the tank , the paper towel will prevent any of the epoxy falling into the tank whilst it is drying and getting around the PS system.

Would a sliver of plastic be better? Cut out of a plastic bottle for example
This. I’ve found it works well by pasting the Araldite or other epoxy onto the paper towel first so you can get it nicely saturated on a flat surface, then apply the patch to the hole.Put a piece of paper towel over the hole and epoxy over it and onto the surrounding plastic of the tank , the paper towel will prevent any of the epoxy falling into the tank whilst it is drying and getting around the PS system.

Yes and I would use one of the 5 minute epoxies so less time for it to sag/runThe epoxy (or whatever you choose) should be thick enough to stop it falling through the small hole , the paper (or whatever you choose) is just belt and braces incase it makes a break for freedom before it hardens.
Just remember to degrease and key the plastic around the hole to give the resin a chance to adhere to the area properly.

Or did they spot the loose hose ??? Maybe they are trying to deflect blame ?Just taken car into the in and out centre for them to see. They’ve spotted a hose that clips onto the side of the PS expansion tank loose and not attached to the water pump (see pic) and I think they’re now wondering if the damage was caused when we had water pump replaced (start of March by another garage).
Could this be the case? Does the oil filter cap need to be unscrewed to replace water pump? And is that loose hose vital to the WP?
Cheers!
