Hi all...

I have a 2008 Merc Vito with a mere 30k miles in the clock.
For a while now all the warning lights have been flashing
ABS
Brakes
ESP
Tyres
The general performance of the van has been fine although sometimes the key seems sticky and it doesn't turn over.
This week the van has been struggling to drive and spitting out lots of black smoke. I took it to the mechanic who said it sounds like the turbo (although he's doubtful it would be the turbo on a van that's done so little miles!) and that the problem is probably connected to the sensors on the warning lights and is reading that the turbo has gone!
The mechanic isn't sure where to start with regards to the warning lights coming up.
Can anyone offer any help it suggestions?!
Thank you :)

Black smoke from a turbo engined car often points to an air leak. Get him to properly check all the hoses for any splits/leaks. You'll also be down on power. The ABS/Brakes/ESP sound like another problem altogether.

Are you using a MB specialist to diagnose your faults? You really need to find one in your area to read the fault codes and take it from there.

You probably need to get it plugged into an MB diagnostic system (STAR) to see what fault codes are logged. That would mean a trip to a dealer or good independent garage. I wouldn't personally be driving it with those warning lights on.

Sound like two issues.

ABS, ESP etc can be triggered if the battery is disconnected or run flat. The cure is to turn the steering full lock to full lock six times. After you have checked your battery is good.

The smoke (s said) may be a split or loose hose connector.

Sent from my iPhone using sausage fingers.

I'd also check the Brake light switch for the ABS/ESP lights to be triggered..Had that recently (followed by a broken spring)..

On The MAF sensor - disconnect it and see if it runs better - if it does, then your looking at a new MAF..

Sounds like you need a better mechanic

Where about are you based? Perhaps someone on here can recommend a good specialist who can get this sorted for you

Thank you all for your advice!
Most definitely sounds like I need a trip to a Merc specialist and get a proper diagnostic.
I'm based in Birmingham if anyone can suggest anyone?

MSL are in Birmingham , or Mercland Nuneaton is close by. Both members on here. I've never used them but people speak highly of them

Terry @ Wayne Gates is also very very good but he's probably 1 1/2 -2 hrs away

Bit late but I use WDM Cars on the Aldridge Road Perry Barr. they have been looking after my E320 (w211) since I got it. Looks a bit tatty but they know what they are doing have a STAR machine (the official diagnostic tool the main dealers use) and most importantly I believe them to be honest and trustworthy.

Not used MSL but they are often recommended and have a good reputation.
