Dashboard Lighting

Hello all! New to this board. I have just bought a 98 C240 Elegance for my father to replace his old 1994 BMW 525TDS. When I bought the car the heater panel illumination wasn't working so i managed to changed the bulbs for that. However I have noticed that the switch panel that controls the headlights, foglamps and headlight aim level is not lit up. 2 questions a) should this be lit up? and b) if so how do you access the bulbs to it? This is a list of many things to do on this car to get it upto to A1 standard....well near enough!

a) No - it does not light up !
(its a feature - not a fault, of course !) - either cost saving on the part of MB, or to avoid a reflection in the drivers window - not quite sure which, as it lights up in other models.)

I've got the same problem, with the right hand thermostat and vent direction dials not being illuminated. On my facelift 202 the dials are all in a pre-assembed module, with a 210 part number. Is this easy to open up, and what kind of bulbs are inside?
