I need a diagram or some sort of explanation as to how to remove the dashboard on a '98 C230K. I've asked this question maybe a month ago and nobody replied... does this mean that nobody knows??

Please provide me with some help here!

Dashboard or just the cluster?

Do you need to remove the whole dashboard? or just a certain section?

Well i want to be able to access the climate control unit, as the illumination light needs replacing. And I recently bought a new head unit, with bluetooth handsfree kit, and i want to run the microphone through the dashboard so it sits up near the drivers side top panel. So in other words, the whole dashboard (i think) :)

I doubt you'd be wanting to remove the whole dash to do that.

You should be able to thread the microphone through by just opening various areas like thewhere the head unit lives and the cluster.

Likewise, I think its unlikely that you'd need to remove the whole dash to swap a bulb in the aircon unit.

Removing the whole dashboard is really not for the feint hearted.

The climate control bulbs can be replaced by removing the two knobs (if you have manual climate or the whole unit can bee removed with special radio removal keys if you have automatic climate. The main dealers stock the bulbs but they are very small and sometimes can be fiddly to install. As Spike has said for routing the microphone wire I doubt removing the complete dashboard is necessary.

If you get the 2 radio remove tools

Or, pull foward the passenger carpet with the luggage net, push you hand through the back of the dash and push the headunit forward :D

Following on from last months thread, with the 2x screws removed, carefully (but with force) pull towards you and upwards to remove the central trim, note the lip at the top where the trim 'hinges' and its pulled out:

Also i dont have the analogue setup, its the cilmate control thingy displayed in that diagram earlier on in the thread, i tried loosening the screws at the bottom of the head unit bit (there's 2 of them there) it jerks around, but i'm scared of pulling it too hard that i'll break something... thats about as close as i got to removing it

IIRC you need a pair of keys to pop the climate control panel out.

The last man who went to buy them was told that they were workshop tools and refused to sell them, the same as with the gearbox dip stick.

I would really love to know if MB can do this, as in my view it comes under the restriced practices act of a couple of years back
