Hi. Has anybody installed a dashcam in their car (specifically a W203 C55 AMG or similar)? I have a Garmin dashcam that I removed from my previous car that I would like to wire in. Not sure of the best place to wire it in though. Overhead console? On my previous car, I soldered a chunky cable and aux socket to the back of the cigar lighter socket. Any easy wins with the Merc? Thanks.

I paid £50 to have mine fitted by one of those specialised motorist outlets. Not halfords.

Wired mine to the feed for the cockpit light. Easy peasy.
:-)

No mate, W205 and it's always on; but for me it's a plus as where I park on my drive it points at my shed.....

If I remember correctly from last week I wired and inline fused a friends dashcam into the glove box light circuit as it's ignition switched on his w203 C320. Hope that helps.

I've got a speed camera thingy on the dashboard of my C-CLass Coupe, it was there when i bought the car, never paid it much attention really (i should remove it but havent been bothered too!)

That is wired into the fuse box on the right hand end of the dashboard and is only powered when the ignition is on, so i suspect your camera will be capable of being fed form that area too, if you want i can take a peek and see what fuse it might be linked into.

Mine is wired & is only working when the ignition is on using a piggy back fuse and wired into the front SAM unit. the cable comes out from under the SAM cover & into the cockpit through by the side of the cable loom just beneath the SAM. The dashcam is then fuse protected & works treat.

Look at this on e bay & you'll see what I mean

Piggy Back ATC Blade Fuse Holder with 4 Fuses 12V 20A Fuse Tap ATM Add Circuit | eBay

Nextbase hardwire kit

I have a Nextbase cam with optional hardwire kit. Wires in to fuse box, no chopping wires etc, just plugs in, very easy.. But that's a Nextbase kit..

Hi Carrsey,
I would be interested to know what fuse you chose (assuming you used teh cockpit fusebox.
I have a Nextbase hardwire kit, but can't identify an appropriate fuse.
Thanks.

Ive installed several. I wish Id known you could get £50 lol.

Get something like this Mini USB Auto Hard Wire Kit - Dash Cam Car DVR 12V 24V - Angled Plug 5V 2.1A 3M | eBay which I presume your hardwire kit resembles ?

Hard wire it into the rear of your ignition switched cigarette lighter and bingo. The supply and its fuse will be more than adequate but if you are about surges fit an additional in line fuse of a lower value

The majority of dashcams by default or option setting will switch on and record , overwriting old segments on the mem card as soon as power is applied.

This means you can fit and forget and it'll always work. Not had a problem with one yet.

I got this kit from Halford. Had to run all the cable along the headlining into the fuse box in the boot only took about 10 minutes or so. Can't remember which fuse I used but can check for you.

For me, all the way to the boot is too much dismantling of trim etc.

Maybe, and only maybe, if there was a simple around the dash connction to make I would have a go.

Just do not want to damage anything or end up with rattles.

I didn't take one piece of trim apart I just poked the wire under the door seal and into the boot you can't see any wires at all

Exactly what I did. The only fiddly bit was around the back seat from the power socket. My logic is less parts to rattle and if I do scratch anything I wont see it :)

Did you manage to say which fuses you tapped into?

Sorry to jump on old post but did you (amiller81) happen to say which fuses you tapped into? Just trying to hardwire a cam in to fuses in the boot but not sure what fuses to use. This is for a Power Magic PRO and trying to find what fuse for the yellow and red wires
