Is it possible via STAR to deactivate the front foglights?

Just a future mod idea ;)

Are they on a separate fuse ? You could just pull that ...

Are you planning on using the electrical circuit or just installing rockets in the bumper ?

About £70 from Halfords for those Ring Apollo lights. Am thinking of using them on my CLS :)

£49 from eBay (ring ones).

Just hope they are white and not bluey

Wouldn't that cause it to fail the MOT?

Front fogs arent a required with MOTs, only rear. AFAIK

A bit Bling Karl. I've seen a few aftermarket LED daytime running lights on Mercedes, they just don't look right. IMHO of course.

I would have thought you could reprogramme the CGW and the SAM unit that controls the fog lights to disable them.

Turned off, it would look OEM as I would be putting them into the fog surrounds, switched on I think it would work. Got the idea after seeing a W212 with them (round ones) one, aswell as seeing a W204 with them also.

Go for it, it will be interesting.

I think that aesthetially they will work. Those DRLs also look to be good quality rather than some of the chavvy ones I have seen (none more chavvy than the new RR!)
Rather than fitting resistors to fool the bulb failure it may be worth relocating the original bulbs as these will present the correct load. They will of course get HOT - but no hotter than the resistors.

OTOH, why do you need to code this? The foglights are only on when they are switched on and/or the rear foglight is on. Doesn't the bulb failure only come on then? - so it would just be an additional 'warning ' when the rear fog light is on. You will get the malfunction error in the display, but I think that clears on the next restart.

Thanks for the replies.

When I 1st fit my CLK63 front bumper I didnt have the fogs wired up and every time I started the car the error appeared. so I was thinking that deactiviating would be the best option...?

One set of the round lights are DRLs, the other fogs:

I was thinking of just replacing the standard H11 foglights bulbs with H11 CREE LED bulbs which are a direct replacement and CanBus compatible and just using the normal front foglights function as DRLS........would this not work instead of going to all the pain of changing the standard fog lamp housing?
Also those Ring lamps are only 3watt, thats pretty puny.......they might be white but they will not look like OEM brightness DRLs.
The CREE LEDs are extremely bright (as used in most OEM DRLs).

Trouble is with with using your fogs as DRL is that you have to have the sidelights on aswell, which in turn activate your tail lights. +

I might opt for the Hella version, alot more powerful/brighter/expensive.

The LEDs I sell are made by CREE :)

That's true, but that's not so bad really and don't forget in some countries with DRL regs the cars run with sidelights on anyway ala Volvo/Saab.
