Dead key

Guys just a quick one, my spare key for my cls is dead! Does it take a battery??? If I put it into the ignition the car does start but no light comes on the key when I press the lock/unlock button. If so do I need to take it to mb dealers?

I've got the manual which comes with the car wallet with other books etc. I've just been to lazy to read a big book lol! Only the other day I found out how to load the cd's as I don't really listen to music when I'm driving rather listen up the v8
