Design of New Mercedes Headlights and Grill

Following the launch of the new 2008 C Class it got me thinking about the shape and design of the front of new Mercedes. In particular the changing design of the Headlights and Grills.

I show below a range, not complete but indicative of the new designs. What are your views and preferences? Please comment and vote as it is fascinating to see how Mercedes are changing the front end of their cars.

I quite like the new designs, looks muscular and fresh.

The C Class generally always looks similar to the S Class of the same generation (ie W202 / W140, W203 / W220, then W204 / W221).

I assume the new CLK will be similar in apperance to the CL, or perhaps another evolution again...

Wasn't a hige fan of the wheel arches but they grow on you, just in the same way the 5 & & series BMW's just look right now!

By the way that ML looks familiar

MB have always have a habit of doing this for their range - back in the 80/90s the W123/124/126/107 share the same rectangle design for the headlamps/grill. The W140/202/129 next generation models also shared a similar headlamp design. When W210 was launched that’s when MB went for the "goggle eye" look which then changed to peanut shape when the next generation models were launched W203/211/209/230 which are the current/present generation models.

The C class has always been designed to be a "baby" version looks/design wise of the S class.

Any resemblance to your front end, or anyone else's is purely coincidental mate.

The ML is A W163 and not the newer W164! A bit out of date!

I voted for the new 2008 C class. Second would have been the B class.

The thing is Mercedes-Benz make so many different sorts of cars now a common headlight theme would be hard to carry across the ranges.

An A Class with SL style lights would look weird, likewise a cutting edge CLS with E Class lights would look peculiar.

Style the lights to suit the car I say.

The R230 SL design IMO is spoiled by the horrible orange "fried egg" look from the indicator bulbs which makes it looked dated so I am surprised that is has so far had a 17% vote...
