Two months ago I took delivery of a new W204 C320CDi Elegance which I am delighted with. But the handbook mentions the different oil to be used for cars with or without a "diesel particle filter".

Trouble is it does not mention which cars have them, only that some countries do have them fitted and some dont. Does anyone know if my UK bought C320CDi has one or not? Whichever it is can you recommend the correct engine oil to use other than Mercedes own oil. My nearest Mercedes dealer is very far away and if I could use a local source for topping up oil that would be great.

By the way, I am in the UK but as far north as it is possible to be so any assistance would be much appreciated.

Is it a euro4 model? If so, it will have the filter.

Thanks for that, I'm not sure what a euro4 model is, but to clarify I live in the UK and bought from a UK dealer.

This tells about the Euro 4 emission standard.

An extract about Mercedes' particulate filter on the V6 diesel:

"A maintenance-free particulate filter system is standard equipment for the V-6 engine in Germany, Austria, Switzerland and the Netherlands. The filter is purged without the use of additives by selective adjustment of different engine functions."

Your dealer will know what you've got but I would guess you have a non-maintenance-free particulate filter!

The relevant M-B press release is here: http://wwwsg.daimlerchrysler.com/SD...IT/0,2970,0-1-62101-1-1-text-0-62098,00.html?

The oil specs are in your manual - from memory its 229.31 oil, I think Mobil 1 do a 5w30 ESP that should be ok. The specs are printed on the back of the bottle.

Many thanks to you all, most helpfull information.:)

I think if you have it, you'll have option 474 ("Particle filter") on your datacard. You might have 926 ("Exhaust gas cleaning with Euro 4 technology") as well/instead.
