DivX/XVid to DVD

I'm building a DVD using Adobe Encore, but several of the video files I've been provided with are in DivX/XVid format at wierd sizes such as 624x352 and 608x336.

Encore can only handle 720x576 and 704x576 frame sizes, so I need some conversion software. I don't need it to write to DVD as Encore does that; it just needs to convert it to a suitable frame size and keep it in .avi format.

Anyone have some they can recommend ... free would be good

I've been using Ulead DVD factory, which converts very well whatever the size, but of you need to resize then there are a few others WinDVD Suite is good too.

Cheers for the replies guys. Realised that Premiere Pro has a Media Encoder built-in, which exports video suitable for Encore ... but not audio which has to be extracted with Audition

I'm probably doing something wrong, but it's only a short project and I'm unlikely to see videos like this again, so I'll persevere.

Have you tried Win Avi, quick and very easy, version 7 and above,
CuCu soft works well but hammers the cpu on older pc's
