Hi everyone, new happy (???) S Class owner here.
So i got my first MB not long ago, with satnav not working, getting message about new software been installed - now new maps need to be installed. Done research, led to believe its fried HDD - replaced it as to the write up on another forum, still nothing. The cd/dvd drive looks ok as reads all other discs - movie dvds, cds, mp3s. But when i insert a genuine latest MB lime green maps dvd nothing happens... just dvd video/audio format not recognized pops on the screen.
Anybody solved the issue or know what it might be ?
TIA

You have the Comand experts very close to you in Lightwater Surrey.
Give them a call with your Vin# and they can advise.

Hi Richard, i didnt, on MBforum i found write up that says command would format and partition the HDD once map disc is inserted, it doesnt even ask if i want to update maps, wonder if i should get the hdd error cleared on stars first...

I'm not convinced it will format the hard drive, especially if it is not the drive it was expecting - even though the forums may say it will

What did you put in ? Did you put in an Automotive grade device ? (Although the NTG3 has proper vibration damping in it whereas all the other hard disk COMANDs completely rely on the Automotive Grade devices being much more vibration resistant and cooler than standard drives)

Also, how long did you leave it after you put the map disk in ??

Cheers
Richard

Excellent - no vibration issues or heat issues - only question is temperature range (Cleary automotive drives have a bigger temperature range than ones designed to live in computers in houses/data-centres)

My question "Also, how long did you leave it after you put the map disk in ??" was because often people don't leave it long enough after it has said 'disk unreadable" (or similar) - which it says because its not a Audio/Video CD/DVD.

Cheers
Richard

right, so had it star'ed, error keeps bouncing back, matey says strange that everything else works just fine but hdd doesnt, so my next step is connecting the old hdd to a pc to see if it in fact is toasted, but gotta wait for an old fashion ide cable lol. if its healthy then maybe ide tape's gone, replace it, and if no luck will pop in to Lightwater one day for you Richard to have a go at it, maybe something wrong with firmware, matey doesnt have access to firmware disks of any sort.

hi, so the old toshiba HDD was fried beyond repair/recovery, i formatted new disk to fat32 - no luck, ext3 - no luck.
Question: would firmware/telematics be responsible for not discovering the hdd as it appears to me this is main problem here - hdd invisible to system ? Anyone here could share a clone of a working hdd to eliminate hardware problems ?
cheers
Andy
