As a few members will know/have seen my rear alloys have always been in a terrible state since I bought them.

As only the 'rim' part of the wheel had damage and the rest of them were fine and I always like to have a go myself, I decided to have a go and refurbing them myself rather than getting them done professionally.

Some of you will think I will have wasted my time and I should have gotten them done correctly, but im more than happy with the results. :bannana:

Cost me:
-£12 for all the various grades of Sandpaper & Laquer
-about 10 hours of spare time.

Again, not perfect but 100times better than before!

NICE much better and look at all the money you have saved with just a bit of elbow greece :thumb:

Nice work. I presume you painted and laquered? I need to do something to mine and might try the DIY approach first.

Yeah, (IIRC - I havent got the pack with me) I used 180, 250, 400, 500 grades on them until I got a nice clean polish on them.

Then I used 4 coats of lacquer to seal them up.

Well done, looks good..!!!

Any pics with the wheels on the car before and after refurb..??

Pictures here of it 15 months ago before the wheels got really bad, you can just make out the damage to the rear alloys, on the 2nd pic check out the side of the wheel on the back of the car (in the shadow):

I will take another picture of it with the cleaned up wheels :)

Very nice indeed! A very good looking job,you should be justifiably proud. My wheels, although not identical, are in a similar state all over and strangley enough i priced up a refurb in a standard silver finish today.Unfortunatley it works out at £65.00 per wheel. I think id rather just invest in some wheels like yours and have a go at refurbing them like you have done.
Good job again!

You are to clever by half:thumb:

top job mate.

Really impressed. When I read the start of the thread, I thought this was a job that wouldn't have a happy ending.

Good job :thumb:, it is the labour that takes an amazingly long time .
When I painted my four wheels it took me about 2-3 days on and off .

Thanks for the comments - Im well pleased, one of my neighbours asked me if they were new!

I will take some non-phone pics tomorrow

Wow!

Give yourself a Pat on the back for us, Womt you!

Because I swear thats a Polished lip.... that you bought back into life..

I got some Hartge deep dish splits, that the laquer is falling off & spotting up the wheels with minimal kerbing, Do you think its simple as rubbing down & re-laquering?

Hi there,

Just wanted to mention that you should definitely increase the grit on the lips! I did the same to my AMG Monoblock II's as well and it will become 10x shinier if you go up to 2000 grit! I did up to 600 dry, then 800 wet / 1500 wet / 2000 wet.

Here are some pics:
