The hunt for a (slower) replacement for the E55K continues...

Gentlemen, what think you of this as a proposition? A 2004 (804 build) E500 Elegance estate, very full history, genuinely very good condition, in dark green with beige leather, and 110K miles on it.

It comes with (scabby-ish OE) 16" wheels with winter tyres, and a new set of replica AMG 18" wheels with new mid-range tyres.

It's relatively poverty-spec, though; no sat-nav/COMAND, no parking sensors, no sunroof, no heated seats, no Harman Kardon. (The full datacard is with my recent VIN request).

The price is £6k. I'd have said that was a bit steep, until that red one that sold recently on eBay.

I quite like the car overall, but it's poorly-specified, and I definitely would have to have aftermarket rear parking sensors fitted.

Any opinions?

Elegances don't sit very well either.

I think he should buy my old e320 Cdi, it's going tobe very close to 500 pace until the speed gets stupid, and being diesel it's not got to entice the op to drive it hard either. And there's the added bonus of the mpg.

It was a cracking car when I had it and also the added bonus of its build thread so shouldn't be any hidden nasty's.

Behave Dennis.

Next question please.

Don't want a diesel. The question remains. I'm havering. Help me make my mind up?

When we help, you end up shouting at us lolololol

Well the fact you mention that the spec is not good, must mean you would like some or all of the extras on the car,and so I think you should reject it and wait for one that has all the buttons.

Like I said on your other thread, go for a facelift S211 E500.

Just get the E55 limited to 2.5k revs

Just set the speed limiter to low speeds ...mind you I went for a country ride today & my mpg is showing 14.0mpg going & must have gotten more confident as it shows 11.07mpg coming back...you'd miss the Kick from these too much...stop being silly..keep it!

Just pop the belt off your supercharger for a week or two.

You're welcome.

What's the mileage on the E500 estate? (apologies if I've missed that detail)

Wouldn't worry about the wheels - easy to source exactly what you want. Personally, I'd always plump for 17's, but those who aren't bothered by comfort always prefer the bigger ones.

If they sold late model E500 estates, I'd be very surprised. They never s appear on Autotrader and don't appear on Howmanyleft.co.uk.

I think there's a few facelifted 211 E500s with the later 5.5 V8 engine - not the earlier M113. A forum member on here has/had one.

Non-AMG V8 petrols were not very good sellers new and hence are not very common on the used market. Very much a 'niche' car.

Mike, the mileage is 113,000. I've always had 18 in wheels on my AMG E-class estates, and never felt the ride was harsh.

Academic, now, anyway; I'll have that E350 - four years younger, much better spec (particularly parking sensors and COMAND - I don't really want a car without those now), 25,000 fewer miles, only a touch more expensive. If the E500 had had a better spec, it would be a much tougher decision, but as it is, it's a no-brainer, really, I think.

I was tempted by the red E500 , lovely colour exterior and interior I'm not a big fan of silver or black Gold one was on sale few months back for just over 2k ( low spec elegance circa 175K miles ??) wish I'd bought it now looking at the £6K & £6,700 ones They are thirsty , can i justify 3 V8's on the drive ?? ( the Boat , the CLK and ??? ) but the m113 is probably cheaper to maintain than a V6 diesel Turbos/ EGR/ Injectors / inlet port motors etc , shame that they put the 7G box on all of the 211 E500's as the previous 722.6 was really bulletproof ,whereas the 7G does use speedplates and can be jerky / software / adaptive glitches.
I'm suspect I'm looking for a high miler going cheap with a good spec as you say you would expect at least Sunroof / Heated seats/ Parktronic on a car at that level not a " classic type spec "
Green or Gold would do me with Privacy Glass but not 16's but wheels are a cheap ish change
Elegance can sit high but doesnt that drop with airmatic in sport mode ? do all E500's come with Airmatic FRonts? ( all estates are airmatic at the back )
Shame theres not many about .

Boyd
